Position Overview
This search will be for a tenure-track (or tenured) Associate or Full Professor/Department Chair 12-month appointment position in the Department of Educational Leadership & Counseling. This position seeks a strong candidate who will serve as Department Chair (50%) and teaching (50%) in a field within the department. The ideal candidate will be expected to teach graduate, and/or doctoral level coursework in the EDLC’s programs; maintain an active program of scholarship through research, publication, and external grant seeking; foster a culture of scholarly productivity by supporting faculty research, collaborative grant development, and external funding initiatives; serve on university committees and engage in professional service activities; and provide transparent, collaborative leadership that promotes shared governance, strengthens communication across departmental programs, supports faculty development, and cultivates a collegial, student-centered culture while advancing the department's strategic priorities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching
Teach graduate and doctoral courses in an area within the department.
Deliver instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities.
Provide academic advising and mentor graduate and doctoral students.
Chair and serve on doctoral dissertation committees as assigned.
Research
Maintain an active program of scholarship through research, publications, and presentations.
Pursue external grant funding and foster collaborative grant development.
Support a culture of faculty research and scholarly productivity.
Service and Administrative Leadership
Provide leadership for departmental planning, budgeting, scheduling, personnel, and operations.
Lead accreditation, assessment, and program review activities.
Conduct faculty and staff evaluations and support faculty development.
Promote transparent communication, shared governance, and a collegial culture.
Serve on university committees and represent the department with internal and external stakeholders.
Support student recruitment, retention, and program growth.
Required Qualifications
Required Education
Earned doctorate in a discipline related to Educational Leadership, Counseling, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
Required Experience
Tenured Associate Professor or Professor.
Demonstrated excellence in graduate teaching, scholarship, and service.
Record of academic leadership, planning, administration, and budget oversight.
Experience with faculty/staff evaluation processes.
Record of leading accreditation and program review efforts.
Evidence of grant writing and/or external funding experience.
Demonstrated commitment to addressing the educational needs of all student populations and collaborative leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
Three or more years of experience supervising personnel and managing budgets.
Experience with fundraising and external partnerships.
Experience in online graduate education.
Experience with curriculum revision and culturally responsive pedagogy.
Experience teaching doctoral courses and chairing dissertations.
Experience in K–12 leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
Ability to build trust through transparent communication and shared decision-making.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and university leadership.
Knowledge of accreditation, assessment, budgeting, and higher education administration.

Additional Information
A federal proclamation issued on September 19, 2025, imposes a $100,000 fee on new H-1B petitions filed after September 21, 2025. Texas A&M University-Kingsville will not pay this fee. If immigration sponsorship may be required for employment, consult with private immigration counsel, at the individual’s expense, is recommended to determine whether the individual’s current immigration status would make a potential offer of employment from Texas A&M University-Kingsville subject to this fee.
In addition, on January 27, 2026, Texas Governor Abbott issued a moratorium on the filing of any new H-1B petitions unless approved by the Texas Workforce Commission. Accordingly, if sponsorship for employment visa status is required now or in the future, this moratorium may affect the university’s ability to employ the selected final candidate.
