Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Specialized Recreation Tennis Instructor to lead adaptive tennis classes designed for participants with diverse abilities. This role supports the City of Bellevue’s mission of providing inclusive, accessible recreation opportunities that encourage skill development, confidence, physical wellness, and community connection.

  • Plan, lead, and instruct adaptive tennis lessons for youth and/or adults with cognitive, developmental, or physical disabilities.
  • Modify teaching techniques and drills to support a wide range of abilities and learning styles.
  • Create a fun, engaging, and safe environment focused on skill-building, participation, and positive social interaction.
  • Facilitate new participant intake process.
  • Assess participant progress and adjust lesson plans as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with caregivers, support staff, and program supervisors regarding program information.
  • Maintain tennis equipment and ensure proper setup and takedown each session.
  • Model professionalism, patience, and inclusive practices at all times.

Supervision received and exercised

  • Typically receives general direction from the manager or program coordinator.
  • Oversee and lead assistant instructors and volunteers.
  • Three or more years of experience teaching tennis, coaching sports, or leading recreation programs.
  • Knowledge of adaptive recreation or experience working with individuals with disabilities (preferred).
  • Strong communication skills, compassion, and the ability to adapt activities on the fly.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
  • USTA Safe Play certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Ability to stand/move for extended periods.
Physical Demands: 
  • Work involves moving, communicating, and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee may be required to set-up, lift, transport tennis equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Work environment may be indoors and/or outdoors.
  • Hours may vary and may require weekends, evenings and holidays.
This is a variable, non-exempt, non-union position.

  • Hours may vary from week to week and are anticipated to be less than 28 hours per week.
