Job Description Summary
GE Vernova is seeking a Cost-out and Plant Engineering Leader to join our HVDC team. This role is responsible for delivering cost-out initiatives for all the HVDC reference solutions to ensure we remain competitive in a challenging market. The role is also responsible for leading a team of plant engineering specialists that provide expert knowledge and support to the business, provide technical input to the reference solutions and carry out plant engineering work associated with the reference solutions. The Cost-out and Plant Engineering Leader sits at the intersection of solution strategy, sourcing excellence, design improvement and cost competitiveness.The successful candidate will own both the cost-out initiatives and the cost framework/baselines for each of the reference solutions. These will serve as the templates for individual bids as well as the basis for analysis and decision making as each reference solution is developed. This leader will drive the use of these cost baselines, support bid and execution teams in the correct application while coordinating contributors from various fields (NPI, Value Proposition, Sourcing, etc). A special focus shall be given on improving competitiveness, controlling risk, and protecting profitability.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Drive a programme of cost-out initiatives focused on maintaining the competitiveness of our wing-to-wing solutions and deliver measurable reductions in our cost base.
- Lead and work with the engineering functions to deliver on these cost-out initiatives and ensure they are probably adopted and built-in to the reference solutions.
- Together with the Solution Cost Manager, own and develop reference solution cost baselines, templates and deployment packages, ensuring the baselines are clearly defined, accurate, user-friendly and well maintained.
- Work with Global Sourcing and others to keep costs up to date, identify any gaps and obtain costings as needed, drive the use of these cost baselines and ensure they are readily available and accessible to all users and stakeholders.
- Ensure the Solution Cost Manager operates in close coordination with the OTR cost controllers to understand actual costs from projects and use this information to refine the reference solution cost baselines.
- Participate in the tender review process to drive the adoption of cost-out initiatives and to review and ensure the consistency of the data presented.
- Lead the team of plant engineering specialists, ensuring that the plant engineering work is of a high standard, using the latest tools and techniques and providing the outcomes that our customers want.
- Ensure that the work of these plant engineering specialists is coordinated and meets the needs of the business and the reference solutions.
- Manage the day-to-day workload of the team and review the future workload to ensure that the capacity and skills of the team match the needs of the business.
- Maintain a skills assessment and development plan for the team.
- Coordinate Solution Line and Regional stakeholders involved in sourcing, finance, cost control and engineering ensuring alignment between processes and regional business needs.
- Continuously evolve the reference solution cost baselines based on market needs, lessons learned, tendering and execution feedback, and business priorities.
- Contribute to improving win rate, execution consistency, and margin performance by strengthening the quality, competitiveness, and use of reference solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Project Management, or a related field of engineering
- Demonstrated experience in cost analysis, bid management, proposal management or Finance in an engineering and/or project environment
- Solid understanding of project cost control processes and industry-standard methodologies
- Good experience of plant engineering works, tools and processes particularly associated with the design and engineering of high voltage substations and offshore platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to drive cost-out initiatives and deliver meaningful outcomes across cross-functional teams
- Stakeholder management and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, tendering, regional, commercial teams
- Proven ability to identify risks, resolve cross-functional issues, and drive alignment in complex business environments
- Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in power systems, grid solutions, power conversion technologies, or other industrial infrastructure businesses
- Experience working in global organizations with regional execution models
- Familiarity with bid management, project execution, and lifecycle support processes
- Experience defining cost models, lead time assumptions, standard terms, or deployment methodologies for standard solutions
- Experience driving continuous improvement, lessons learned, and return-on-experience integration into standard offerings
