Business Analyst - Business Continuity

Overview

The Business Continuity Business Analyst will lead the analysis, design and implementation of Business Continuity and resilience arrangements across the organisation. Working closely with business leaders, process owners and subject matter experts, the role will identify critical business services and processes, assess operational impacts and dependencies, define recovery requirements and develop practical Business Continuity arrangements aligned with existing crisis management, incident management and service recovery frameworks.

 

The role will apply strong Business Analysis and consultancy skills to facilitate stakeholder engagement, analyse business processes and dependencies, identify resilience gaps and translate findings into clear continuity requirements, plans and improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will combine strong Business Analysis and business change experience with a broad understanding of Business Continuity, operational resilience, technology dependencies and risk management.

Responsibilities

• Act as a Business Analysis and Business Continuity consultant, working with senior leaders, process owners and subject matter experts to understand business needs, facilitate workshops, analyse processes and operational requirements, provide constructive challenge, and translate findings into clear continuity requirements, plans and improvement actions.
• Lead or facilitate Business Impact Assessments (BIAs) to identify critical business services, processes and activities, assess the potential operational, financial, customer, regulatory, legal and reputational impacts of disruption, establish recovery priorities and requirements, and validate outcomes with business owners and senior stakeholders.
• Map critical business services, processes and their internal and external dependencies across people, technology, applications, data, facilities, suppliers and information. Identify manual workarounds, single points of failure, concentration risks and other resilience vulnerabilities, including critical third-party and technology dependencies.
• Define and validate recovery requirements, including Maximum Tolerable Periods of Disruption (MTPD), Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs), Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) and minimum service levels where applicable. Translate BIA and dependency analysis into practical Business Continuity Plans and recovery arrangements, ensuring appropriate ownership, roles, escalation and communications and alignment with incident response, crisis management and IT service recovery arrangements. Maintain plans through appropriate review, approval, validation and change processes.
• Identify resilience gaps, risks, control weaknesses, single points of failure and opportunities to strengthen continuity arrangements. Develop practical recommendations and improvement actions, assess the impact of business, technology and supplier changes, and support the prioritisation, delivery and tracking of resilience improvements and lessons learned.
• Design and facilitate scenario-based Business Continuity exercises, assess the effectiveness of plans and recovery arrangements, capture lessons learned and track resulting actions. Support Business Continuity governance, reporting and assurance, maintaining appropriate records of BIAs, plans, dependencies, exercises, risks and improvement actions, and ensuring arrangements remain aligned with organisational policies, risk frameworks and relevant regulatory or audit requirements.

Essential skills

• Strong Business Analysis and consultancy skills, including requirements elicitation, process analysis, facilitation, stakeholder management and structured problem solving.
• Broad technical understanding of IT concepts and technology dependencies, including applications, infrastructure, databases, cloud services, cybersecurity, data protection, service management and IT governance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify dependencies, risks, gaps and opportunities for improvement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex operational and technical issues in clear business language.

Desired skills

• Knowledge of Business Continuity standards and good practice, including ISO 22301.
• Knowledge of IT Service Management and service recovery, such as ITIL.
• Relevant Business Continuity, Operational Resilience, Risk, Business Analysis or Project Management qualification.

Experience

• Relevant experience in Business Analysis, business transformation/change, operational resilience, Business Continuity or a related discipline.
• Demonstrable experience working within the Energy & Utilities sector, with an understanding of the operational environment, critical services, regulatory considerations and dependencies associated with essential infrastructure.
• Proven experience working as a Business Analyst within a large or complex organisation.
• Demonstrable experience engaging with business leaders, process owners, operational teams and subject matter experts.
• Experience facilitating workshops and gathering, analysing and validating complex business requirements.
• Experience analysing business processes, critical activities and dependencies across people, technology, data, suppliers and other operational resources.
• Experience supporting or delivering Business Impact Assessments, continuity planning, resilience assessments or comparable business risk analysis.
• Experience translating analysis and stakeholder input into clear requirements, plans, processes and actionable recommendations.
• Experience working within Agile and/or Waterfall delivery environments and adapting Business Analysis techniques to the needs of the initiative.
• Experience supporting significant business change, transformation, technology implementation or operational improvement programmes.
• Previous experience in Business Continuity, Operational Resilience or enterprise resilience.
• Experience within critical infrastructure, utilities, financial services, healthcare, transport or another regulated or operationally critical environment.
• Experience developing and facilitating Business Continuity exercises and scenario testing.
• Experience assessing third-party and supplier continuity or resilience.
• Experience working with risk management, enterprise risk or control frameworks.

What do I need before I apply

• The successful candidate will be expected to work onsite three days per week and remotely two days per week.
