Director of Nursing, Mental Health

Healthcare Recruiters seeks a DON (Director of Nursing) for their client’s drug and alcohol treatment facility in Lexington, NY (West Kill) 12492. This is a full-time onsite position.

Position Summary

The Director of Nursing (DON) provides leadership and oversight of nursing services in a substance use disorder treatment and detoxification setting. The DON is responsible for ensuring high-quality, safe, compliant, and coordinated nursing care while supervising nursing staff and supporting a therapeutic environment for clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and annually review nursing policies, procedures, objectives, and quality improvement programs.
• Coordinate nursing services with the multidisciplinary treatment team to ensure continuity of client care.
• Assist with nursing department planning, budgeting, staffing, job descriptions, and assignments.
• Supervise, train, orient, and support nursing staff and participate in ongoing staff education.
• Monitor accurate and timely client documentation, medication administration, and medication self-administration records.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and quality improvement activities.
• Assess clients undergoing detoxification and respond appropriately to medical and behavioral emergencies.
• Screen clients for intoxication, withdrawal, substance toxicity, and risk of harm to self or others.
• Provide education regarding substance use, treatment, medications, and recovery.

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in NY, in good standing.
• Minimum 1 year of nursing supervision or nursing administration experience, or equivalent experience.
• Previous experience in a substance use disorder treatment, detoxification, or behavioral/mental health setting.
• Previous experience managing or supervising nursing services in a licensed substance use treatment facility.
• For detoxification settings, 1 year of supervisory experience or 3 years of experience in an opioid treatment or detoxification facility.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated computer proficiency.
• Ability to effectively supervise nursing staff and manage nursing operations.
• Ability to assess and respond to the medical and behavioral needs of clients undergoing detoxification.
• Knowledge of substance use disorders, withdrawal management, medication-assisted treatment, and toxicology testing.
• Strong understanding of ethical standards, client confidentiality, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
