Over time you will gain specialist knowledge and develop the skills you require to progress your career at Wood Mackenzie.

Main Responsibilities :

We are looking for a Research Associate to join our Gas & LNG research practice within the Commodities Global Analyst Team, based in Gurugram or Mumbai, India. The role will support the development of Wood Mackenzie’s views across global and regional Gas & LNG markets, with a particular focus on APAC gas markets and global LNG asset developments.

You will undertake detailed research and analysis across the Gas & LNG value chain, including gas and LNG supply and demand, consumption patterns, LNG supply and regasification projects, LNG contracts and shipping, market developments, and relevant macroeconomic trends. You will track and assess industry developments, identify key market drivers and risks, and translate data and industry intelligence into clear, insightful views on current market conditions and future market possibilities.

You will contribute to the development and maintenance of datasets, data models, methodologies and other intellectual property supporting our Gas & LNG research and products. This will include supporting the Global Gas Model, developing scenarios for how gas and LNG markets may evolve, and creating compelling visualizations and analysis to communicate our views.

You will contribute to regular research reports, global LNG outlooks, market insights, informs and webinars, working closely with regional analysts and subject matter experts across Gas & LNG, upstream and other relevant teams. You will be expected to build compelling narratives from researched and available data, articulate supply and demand views, and communicate short- and long-term market outlooks clearly to both internal and external audiences.

The role will also involve supporting client engagement by responding to client enquiries and ad hoc requests, participating in client discussions and presentations, and helping communicate Wood Mackenzie’s views and insights to customers and prospects. Through research trips, industry events and client interactions, you will develop an understanding of the key topics and challenges facing the Gas & LNG industry and incorporate these perspectives into our research.

You will be expected to operate autonomously while collaborating effectively across geographically dispersed teams. As you develop in the role, you will build deeper expertise across Gas & LNG markets and assets while strengthening your capabilities in research, data analysis, modelling, market intelligence, written and verbal communication, and client engagement.

Your application should showcase your enthusiasm for the Gas & LNG sectors and demonstrate your ability in the following areas, which we require daily at Wood Mackenzie.

General core capabilities:

  • Research and data gathering – we identify and gather intelligence that feeds our industry expertise. We need inquisitive and passionate people with a keen eye for detail.

  • Analysis - we provide market-leading research using this data/intelligence and form opinions for, and tell stories to, our customers. We need people with natural curiosity with potential to become experts in their field, and with the ability to articulate – both verbally and in writing – clear, insightful analysis.

  • Internal engagement – we work with colleagues across the Wood Mackenzie business to deliver a compelling, integrated view of the natural resources sector to customers through our cutting-edge products. For this, we need people who are as comfortable working collaboratively as they are independently and who have excellent interpersonal skills.

  • External engagement – we proactively connect with our customers and contacts in the industries we serve, adding value and promoting the Wood Mackenzie brand. This requires people with the potential to become industry experts who have intellectual curiosity, passion, and excellent presentation skills.

  • Continuous improvement – at Wood Mackenzie, we are committed to transform the way we power our planet. The energy transition is here and this impacts our customer base and how we serve them. We need colleagues with a change mindset, who are flexible, growth-orientated and proactive.

Specific role requirements:

  • Build and develop high-quality research on the short-term LNG market, with a focus on demand and shipping.

  • Forecast monthly gas and LNG demand for various countries, run complex models and ensure our view remains robust, up-to-date, and consistent.

  • Participate in the creation of new demand models.

  • Run our shipping models and drive enhancements to our methodologies.

  • Identify and collect market research and data relating to these datasets, working with the data teams to ensure a high level of automation.

  • Compile weekly commentary on LNG demand and LNG shipping. Contribute to our regular internal knowledge shares.

  • Work with the broader gas & LNG teams (for regional and global consistency) or other commodity teams (like power, coal, carbon).

  • Create content for the Monthly Outlook, participate to our monthly webinars.

  • Take part in regular client engagement, either via email, virtual and F2F interactions

Diversity is at the core of our business and we welcome applications from a range of academic or professional backgrounds. Wood Mackenzie has adopted a hybrid approach and we expect people to be present in our offices 2 days per week.

About you

You have a keen interest in commodity market dynamics, and you want to develop an in-depth understanding of how these markets underpin the natural resources industry and impact our everyday lives.

You have an analytical mindset and an eye for detail, which have been proven in your academic and/or work experience to date. You are comfortable collecting, structuring and interpreting large data sets, articulating your findings in a clear and insightful manner. You are curious and seek to clarify and enhance your knowledge by asking thoughtful questions. You also have a flair for writing and communication and confidence in presenting to an audience.

You are a highly adaptive team player and embrace fast-paced environments with frequent change. You are excited to be part of a team that gives you opportunities to work cross-functionally on a variety of tasks. You can work independently and as part of a global and regional team, generating ideas you want to share. The way in which you work is productive and driven, striving to be best in class.

You have an excellent command of English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of at least one other language would be an advantage. You also have an excellent working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, PowerQuery, and PowerPoint, and some exposure to coding.
