The SALT Tax Technology Senior Manager will manage complex SALT technology engagements and support the continued growth of the firm’s SALT technology practice. This role blends state and local tax expertise, technology enablement, automation, and client advisory, with an emphasis on delivering high-quality client solutions, implementing and optimizing indirect tax engines, contributing to new service offerings, and collaborating across broader technology consulting teams.
Job Responsibilities
Practice Development & Leadership
Support growth of the SALT technology practice by expanding existing offerings, including automation implementations, and contributing to new service areas within state tax technology.
Identify and help develop SALT technology solutions that address evolving client needs and regulatory complexity.
Collaborate with practice leadership to execute strategy, support revenue goals, and contribute to go-to-market plans for SALT technology services.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with broader technology consulting teams to identify, scope, and resource cross-functional opportunities.
Serve as a bridge between SALT, technology, data, and advisory teams to deliver integrated client solutions.
Contribute to firm-wide initiatives by incorporating SALT technology capabilities into broader transformation engagements.
Technology Implementation & Optimization
Manage and oversee implementation of indirect tax engines, including Avalara, Vertex, OneSource, and other leading SALT and indirect tax technologies.
Perform technology health checks, optimization, and remediation services for clients using these platforms.
Design and improve end-to-end SALT data flows, system integrations, and compliance processes.
Automation, Data & Efficiency Enablement
Leverage technology and automation to improve client efficiency across advisory and consulting engagements, compliance and reporting, and audit defense and controversy support.
Work with other technologies, tools, and data platforms to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy and audit readiness.
Support development of dashboards, reconciliations, and workflow solutions.
SALT Compliance & Data Management Support
Assist with sales tax, property tax, and local tax compliance data and technology management.
Ensure systems and processes support accurate filings, data retention, and regulatory changes.
Help clients scale their SALT operations through standardized, defensible, and technology-driven solutions.
Business Development & Client Leadership
Support sales efforts, proposal development, and client presentations related to SALT technology solutions.
Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on SALT technology, automation strategy, and process improvement.
Manage day-to-day client relationships, engagement delivery, budgets, timelines, and project teams.
Meet or exceed firm utilization and billable hour expectations through effective engagement planning, active client delivery, and balanced contributions to practice development and team leadership.
Team & Vendor Management
Supervise, mentor, and develop SALT and tax technology professionals.
Coordinate third-party vendors and implementation partners and manage assigned internal resources.
Promote best practices, quality control, and delivery excellence across engagements.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Tax, Information Systems, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in SALT, tax technology, or technology-enabled tax consulting.
Proven experience with indirect tax engines, including Avalara, Vertex, OneSource, or comparable platforms.
Strong understanding of SALT compliance, data, and automation.
Demonstrated ability to support practice growth and manage complex client-facing initiatives.
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA, JD, MST, or MBA.
Prior experience in a public accounting or consulting firm.
Experience contributing to new service offerings or practice development.
Familiarity with ERP systems, cloud data environments, and analytics tools.
Team leadership, coaching, and sales support experience.

Certain states require us to disclose the pay range and benefits summary for job openings. The compensation range for this position: $177,200 - $241,400. Compensation may vary based on skills, role, and location. Eligible employees at certain levels can participate in a discretionary long-term financial incentive plan, subject to plan participation rules.
