Description

Independent work in the operation and administration of the Fleet and Warehouse Operations Division. Performs work involving the receiving, recording, storing and issuing of a variety of materials, equipment and supplies including those of a specialized nature. Work includes the accountability for all storeroom/warehouse items and maintenance of records and purchasing or recommending the purchasing of equipment and supplies. Additional duties include management of all repair orders, assisting Fleet and Warehouse Manager in maintaining records relating to inventory, requisitions, parts, vehicles, and equipment. This position may function as a lead worker. 

Work is performed under direction and supervision of the Fleet and Warehouse Manager who issues instructions regarding matters of policy and reviews work for achievement of desired results.  


  • Responsible for management and operation of all warehouse and fleet inventory, including auditing for accuracy, maintaining appropriate levels of inventory, year-end inventory, utilizing Dossier and Munis to manage all aspects of inventory control. Development and maintenance of electronic bar code inventory system. 
  • Responsible for procuring inventory supplies, materials and equipment for Fleet inventory. Receives, enters/records, unpacks, stores, and issues a variety of Fleet inventory. Oversees the Warehouse Storekeeper II to ensure effective operations of Warehouse Inventory. 
  • Assists Fleet & Warehouse Manager with accurately updating and maintaining vehicle and equipment service records utilizing associated software. Maintains an updated and accurate computerized listing/inventory of the entire City fleet and a variety of records relating to work orders, requisition of supplies, parts, vehicles, and equipment. 
  • Responsible for accurate weekly, monthly, and annual reports, including but not limited to, repair orders, pick tickets, fleet and warehouse inventory, and fuel records. 
  • Assists Manager in ensuring consistent application of all safety regulations and policies. Maintains compliance with all Federal, State (Florida Department of Environmental Protection), and local laws and regulations related to fuel tank storage and vehicle repair shop operations. 
  • Assists the Manager with the development and implementation of the goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and budget as applicable to the Division. Assists the Manager in analyzing expenses and implementing documented cost saving and Quality Control measures. 
  • Operates forklift, reach truck, or related maintenance equipment. Responsible for care and maintenance of storerooms, outside storage areas, and supplies and equipment. Checks incoming materials for quantity and quality against invoices or purchase orders, reports discrepancies and issues supplies on approved requisitions.
  • Performs tasks related to procuring supplies, materials, and equipment in accordance with the City’s Procurement and Policy Manual. Purchases repair and maintenance items as necessary under the direction of the Fleet & Warehouse Manager. Keeps accurate records of competitive bids on all purchases.
  • May assist Manager and/or Lead Mechanic with inventory, budget, and other Fleet issues. Oversees the Storekeeper II in the absence of the Manager.  
  • Responsible for non-hazardous waste recycling and disposal and Hazardous Material Data Sheet (MSDS) Binder and Materials.
  • Performs related work as required. 

High school diploma required and three (3) years of experience in receiving, storing, shipping, and issuing inventory items. Must have knowledge of computers and ability to enter data accurately and efficiently into a computer system. Knowledge of truck, automobile, and hydraulic parts, required. Prior mechanical experience preferred. Knowledge of parts and materials used in utility construction and utility maintenance, preferred. 

Forklift certification required or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.  

Driver's License Requirement: Valid Florida Driver's License. Classification B with tanker endorsement preferred or ability to obtain within 6 month probation period.


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to effectively and professionally communicate and exchange information with others. This position performs in both office and field settings and does require physical strength and agility, including frequently standing, walking, bending, crouching and kneeling and frequent use of hands to operate computer including keyboard and mouse. The employee must be able to lift, move, or carry objects up to 75 pounds and occasionally lift, move, or carry object up to 125 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
