Role Description
This role reports to the Pharma & API Platform Procurement Lead and leads procurement activities for the Rathdrum and Tallaght sites to ensure uninterrupted supply of quality materials and services in the most cost-effective manner. In addition to site procurement responsibilities, the role contributes to the development and execution of global strategic plans for raw material and services, as well as leading strategies for locally managed materials. The role is part of the Site Leadership Team and drives site initiatives to reduce the cost of purchased goods, maintaining strong relationships with the site leadership team. It ensures all procurement activities are carried out ethically and in compliance with all Zoetis policies and procedures.
Key measures include the ongoing delivery of the best value proposition for Zoetis (cost, quality, service), including savings achievement, budget impact, material availability, and supplier performance.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Key objectives of this position include:
Cost Improvement
Own and be accountable for the procurement site budget, including defining and providing standard costs and monitoring and forecasting Purchase Price Variance throughout the financial year. Develop and maintain an ongoing cost-reduction plan and budget for the site by working closely with suppliers, site management, and cross-functional teams (Planning, Quality, Finance). Ensure robust execution of planned and opportunistic cost-reduction initiatives to meet and exceed the annual budget. Partner with suppliers to provide input into category strategies and implement value-driving agreements (contracts) that positively impact site costs (Raw Materials and Indirect). Define and execute sustainable continuous improvement (CIP), value engineering, and dual-sourcing projects for the site in collaboration with key site stakeholders. Accountable for delivering cost-reduction initiatives across the sites’ spend.
Supplier Performance & Relationship Management
Own site-specific supplier KPIs and performance reviews; drive corrective actions where needed. Maintain ownership of site-specific supplier relationship management and day-to-day supplier engagement. Ensure site-required local contracts are executed and completed, or escalated to category when they must be handled globally.
Supply Continuity & Risk Management
Proactively identify risks related to materials and services in scope and implement mitigation plans (e.g., dual sourcing, safety stock where appropriate). Tier 2 escalation point for supplier delivery and quality performance. Monitor supplier performance and drive resolution of acute and chronic issues to prevent disruption to manufacturing operations. Systematically assess supply chain risks (quality, EHS, cost, delivery) and develop/implement mitigation plans. In collaboration with Supply Chain, support reliable and timely availability of materials for the sites. Support resolution of major supplier quality issues, including issues identified through audits. Ensure new suppliers are qualified in line with internal Change Control procedures. Maintain overall accountability for supplier service performance supporting site operations.
Success measures (example KPIs)
- Site supplier KPI performance (OTIF/service, quality, responsiveness) and issue closure rate.
- PPV / savings delivery and validated value pipeline (aligned with finance).
- Contract coverage/compliance for site-required agreements.
- Spend visibility and tail-spend reduction progress (threshold-based program).
- Risk identification and mitigation actions implemented.
- Stakeholder satisfaction and effective category alignment (fewer “off-strategy” buys).
Out of scope
To keep the role focused on value and governance, the Site Procurement Lead should not be the default owner for:
- Routine P2P operational support (e.g., invoice resolution as primary responsibility).
- PO execution owned by Purchasing Managers/operations teams (where applicable).
- Running isolated sourcing events for large spend areas without global/category alignment.
- Owning non-procurement change controls or projects that do not support procurement/category targets.
- Primary ownership of quality agreements (unless explicitly assigned in the operating model).
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- Directly reports to the Pharma & API Platform Procurement Lead
- Strong working relationship with the Platform leader, site Leadership team and Management teams, Category Managers, Finance, Quality, EHS, GMS and all functions that affect the supply base.
- Works closely with Site Management teams and Suppliers to generate cost improvement plans for the annual budget and to rectify any budget shortfall.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Relevant BA/BS with over 10 years of experience
- Greenfield and/or start-up experience preferred inclusive of strong project management skills
- A good understanding of the Manufacturing environment / experience of working closely with and in Manufacturing sites
- An understanding of GMP and the Quality standards required in a Pharmaceuticals business
- Experience in working with cross functional teams to achieve site goals.
- Experience in understanding and implementing strategic business requirements.
TECHNICAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
- Self-motivated with a positive can-do attitude.
- Relevant procurement experience i.e. experience of supplier management and achieving measurable benefits.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence without direct authority.
- Strong interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills.
- Strong commercial acumen (contracts, negotiations, supplier performance management).
- Numerate, used to working in Excel, with an analytical skillset capable of both identifying and quantifying cost savings.
- SAP and/or Ariba Procurement system experience preferred.
- Able to communicate in English Oral/Written.
PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Role is based at Rathdrum or Tallaght with
- Weekly attendance at both sites (requirement of this role)
- Reasonable travel to Cherrywood (Dublin Office)
- Travel percentage 15% to suppliers
