Job Summary:

The Receiving Inspection & Calibration Team Lead is responsible for leading the daily activities of the Receiving Inspection and Calibration functions to ensure compliance with quality management system requirements, regulatory standards, and company procedures. This position oversees incoming material inspection, calibration program management, and team performance while driving continuous improvement initiatives that support operational excellence, product quality, and customer satisfaction.

The Team Lead provides technical guidance, prioritizes workload, ensures timely completion of inspections and calibrations, and serves as the primary escalation point for issues related to supplier quality, nonconforming materials, and measurement system integrity.

This is a working role and up to 75% of the time the lead will be expected to conduct inspection and support calibration activities as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, and develop Receiving Inspection and Calibration personnel.
  • Assign daily work activities and establish priorities to meet production and business requirements.
  • Monitor team performance through metrics, audits, and regular performance discussions.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and competency development of team members.
  • Promote a culture of quality, compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Receiving Inspection

  • Oversee incoming inspection activities to verify materials, components, and assemblies meet established specifications and quality requirements.
  • Ensure inspection plans, sampling plans, and acceptance criteria are appropriately applied.
  • Review and disposition incoming inspection records and documentation.
  • Coordinate containment activities for nonconforming materials.
  • Initiate and support supplier corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Supplier Quality teams to resolve quality concerns.
  • Monitor inspection performance metrics including turnaround times, defect rates, and supplier quality trends.

Calibration Management

  • Manage the site calibration program for measurement and test equipment.
  • Ensure calibration activities are completed according to established schedules and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain calibration records, certificates, and traceability documentation.
  • Coordinate external calibration service providers and internal calibration activities.
  • Investigate and assess the impact of out-of-tolerance equipment.
  • Ensure measurement equipment remains compliant with applicable standards and quality system requirements.
  • Drive improvements in measurement system effectiveness and reliability.

Quality Systems & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable quality standards (ISO 9001/13485).
  • Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
  • Maintain procedures, work instructions, forms, and records related to receiving inspection and calibration activities.
  • Participate in CAPA, nonconformance, risk management, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Ensure data integrity and proper documentation practices are maintained.

Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze inspection and calibration performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions related to inspection and measurement issues.
  • Implement lean manufacturing, process improvement, and error-proofing initiatives.
  • Support digital transformation and automation opportunities within quality processes.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate's degree in Quality, Engineering, Technical Sciences, Manufacturing, or related field required.

Experience

  • 5+ years of quality assurance, receiving inspection, calibration, or manufacturing quality experience.
  • 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience working within regulated or ISO-certified environments.
  • Experience managing calibration systems and measurement equipment.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of receiving inspection methods and sampling techniques.
  • Knowledge of calibration principles, measurement uncertainty, and metrology fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems and requirements such as ISO 9001
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with quality tools, including root cause analysis, SPC, CAPA, and risk assessment methods.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ERP, calibration management, and quality management software systems preferred.

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 plus bonus. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience, and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.
