As an Assistant Manager of Liability, you must be able to engage and motivate a team of adjusters to ensure quality performance, customer service and career advancement while collaborating with other Liability Assistant Managers and Liability managers to deliver cohesive results. This Leadership role is responsible for the success and development of their Liability adjusters. The person in this role works well under minimal supervision using company best practices and takes ownership of their personal brand.
What you’ll do
- Employee development and engagement
- Performance management
- Collaboration with Property Damage and Casualty Assistant Managers
- Manage Storage and Rental Expenses
- Manage subrogation demands through arbitration forums
- Manage property damage excess claims
- Assist adjusters with daily questions, claim file management, client correspondence, and escalated calls
- Assist in finalizing liability for all states in liability claims and applying comparative negligence when appropriate
- Monitor and adjust adjuster workloads
- Perform monthly file audits and phone observations
- Provide constant coaching via feedback and development opportunities
- Reviews and approves Reservation of Rights Letters
- Reviews and approves Coverage disclaimers and Liability denials
- Complete performance reviews for adjusters
- Review and approve reserve/payment requests over adjuster authority levels
- Conduct staff meetings and huddles occasionally
- Reviews occasional Large Loss Reports
- Analyzes facts to justify the assistance of SIU, O&C’s or legal counsel
- Monitor and report out on team and department key performance metrics
- Lead or assist with department initiatives and special projects as needed
- Interview, hire, and train new adjusters
- Manage timecards and employee attendance in accordance with the employee handbook
- Timely address any personnel matters

This might describe you
- At least 3-5 years of experience handling multi vehicle auto liability claims
- Must be detail oriented and show a high level of accuracy
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledgeable in insurance products and expertise
- Exercise decisiveness and execution within their authority
- Must have ability to work individually and as a team
- Ability to maintain confidential information
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Strong time management and organizational ability
- Must possess a keen interest in self-development
- Needs to be reliable, accountable, and trustworthy
- Must be able to stay motivated and positive within a high production role
- Demonstrate proficiencies with computer software & multitasking
- Must maintain impeccable attendance & flexibility to work additional hours as needed
- Must be licensed and bondable
- Become registered with Arb Forums and hear 1-2 cases per month once eligible

Other things to note
- This position is open to U.S. remote work. However, team members who reside within 20 miles of the Traverse City headquarters will follow a hybrid schedule, working from the office three days per week.
- Familiarity with public company requirements, including Sarbanes Oxley and key regulations, if applicable. For SOX compliant roles, responsible for designing, executing, and documenting internal controls where they have been identified as owners to prevent errors in financial reporting, processes, and business operations. Including attestation to the completeness, accuracy, and compliance of all financial reporting data, where applicable.
