Position Summary:
We are seeking a National Payer Accounts Director to lead strategic engagement with national and regional payer accounts. Reporting to the Executive Director, Payer Access, this individual will help shape commercial payer strategy for Ocular Therapeutix’s retina pipeline and marketed ophthalmology portfolio.
The ideal candidate brings deep payer account experience, strong knowledge of medical and pharmacy benefit access, and a practical understanding of coverage, reimbursement, coding, utilization management, specialty pharmacy, and provider-administered product dynamics. This role offers meaningful influence across launch planning, payer engagement, value communication, and patient access strategy.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Develop and execute account strategies for national and regional commercial payers.
- Engage payer stakeholders across medical, pharmacy, policy, reimbursement, and contracting functions.
- Support launch-readiness planning for AXPAXLI/OTX-TKI and access optimization for DEXTENZA.
- Monitor payer policies, formulary criteria, utilization controls, benefit design changes, and reimbursement trends.
- Partner cross-functionally to align evidence, value communication, field resources, and compliant account engagement.
- Translate payer insights into practical recommendations for internal planning and executive decision-making.
Qualification Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of relevant biopharmaceutical, medical device, market access, payer account management, reimbursement, pricing, contracting, or commercial experience; 12+ years preferred for Senior Director level.
- Experience calling on national and regional payer accounts, including commercial plans, PBMs, IDNs, or payer-affiliated provider organizations.
- Strong understanding of medical benefit and pharmacy benefit access, buy-and-bill reimbursement, specialty pharmacy, coding, coverage policy, prior authorization, and utilization management.
- Experience in ophthalmology, retina, specialty pharmacy, rare/specialty therapeutics, or provider-administered products preferred.
- Strong communication, account planning, analytical, negotiation, and cross-functional leadership skills.
- Comfort operating in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
