Job Summary:
The Automation Mechatronics Role is responsible for building, integrating, troubleshooting, and maintaining custom manufacturing equipment. F&M designs, builds and maintains its own proprietary equipment. This role combines a strong mechanical foundation with system integration and a working knowledge of electrical controls and automation. The Automation Mechatronics Role is critical in supporting equipment performance, reliability, and continuous improvement across operations.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and modify custom manufacturing equipment including tooling, guarding, drive systems, motion components, and structural assemblies
- Install and integrate pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems to support equipment functionality
- Perform troubleshooting, alignment, adjustment, and other improvements on equipment
- Perform installation and integration of control panels, sensors, motors, and automation components
- Work with a team to perform equipment startups, commissioning, validation, and operations improvements
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, layout diagrams, prints, and basic electrical schematics
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Maintenance and Operations teams to resolve mechanical and system performance issues
- Recommend and implement design improvements to enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency
- Maintain documentation of equipment builds, modifications, and troubleshooting activities
- Support preventative maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience in Mechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Automation, (or equivalent hands-on experience)
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands on equipment experience and proven troubleshooting skills.
- Working knowledge of PLC’s and industrial automation (troubleshooting level preferred)
- Strong understanding of pneumatics, electrical systems, sensors, drives, and control components
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings

Work Environment:
- Frequently exposed to heat generated by ovens and manufacturing equipment
- May be exposed to seasonal temperature variations (heat, cold, humidity) depending on facility conditions
- May be exposed to chemical substances and fumes during normal operations; exposure is controlled through established safety procedures and required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Noise level varies from moderate to occasionally high; hearing protection is provided and required where applicable
