We’re a team of fast-paced fixers, empathetic experts, and outcomes drivers — people who care deeply about doing the right thing and doing it well. Whether you're managing claims, supporting clients, or improving processes, you’ll play a vital role in helping businesses and individuals move forward with confidence. Here, you’ll be supported by a culture that values teamwork, encourages curiosity, and celebrates the impact of your work. Because when you’re here, you’re part of something bigger. You’re part of a team that shows up, stands together, and leads with purpose.

Overview

The Desk-Based Property Loss Adjuster will investigate, manage, report upon and settle a varied caseload of commercial and domestic property claims. The role is predominantly desk based, delivering the same technical claims handling and investigative responsibilities as a field loss adjuster through telephone, video, digital evidence and document review. The role will also provide technical support to colleagues through staff training, referral handling and report checking where required.

How you'll make an impact

  • Investigate, manage and report on a caseload of property claims, predominantly from a desk-based environment.
  • Handle a full and varied caseload from cradle to grave, including liaison with clients, policyholders and suppliers; determination of policy cover; validation of circumstances; scope and quantum assessment; settlement negotiation; and pursuit of recoveries where appropriate.
  • Undertake effective claim investigations using telephone interviews, video calls, photographs, reports, estimates, invoices, digital evidence and other available information, escalating or recommending a site visit where this is necessary.
  • Handle claims across a broad portfolio, including Commercial and Domestic Property, Education, Heritage, Real Estate, Public Sector and Local Authority risks.
  • Provide clear, evidence-based technical referrals and recommendations on coverage, liability, causation, mitigation, scope, quantum, reserves and settlement strategy.
  • Review and respond to technical referrals from claims handlers and loss adjusters, providing practical guidance and documenting the rationale for decisions.
  • Check reports, correspondence, scopes and settlement recommendations where required, ensuring they are accurate, complete, technically sound and compliant with client service instructions.
  • Support the development and delivery of staff training, coaching and knowledge-sharing sessions on property claims handling, investigation techniques, report writing and technical standards.
  • Identify recurring technical issues, claim trends and learning needs, and work with management to improve guidance, quality and consistency across the team.
  • Ensure claims are handled properly, fairly, promptly and with integrity, maintaining appropriate customer and client communication throughout the claim lifecycle.
  • Maintain high standards of communication with senior management, colleagues and principals, particularly in relation to significant losses, emerging trends, complaints, risks and service issues.
  • Participate in claim reviews, technical meetings, quality assurance and claims auditing activity.
  • Work collaboratively with insurers, brokers, policyholders, contractors, surveyors, engineers and other specialists as required.
  • Undertake occasional travel, site attendance or in-person meetings where the needs of the claim, client or business require it.
  • Comply with all Gallagher Bassett policies, client service instructions, regulatory requirements and office procedures.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties required by Gallagher Bassett.

About you

  • Essential experience of investigating and handling property claims on a cradle-to-grave basis.
  • Strong technical understanding of property damage, construction, causation, mitigation, policy coverage, liability, scope and quantum.
  • Ability to investigate and progress claims effectively without routine site attendance, using professional judgement to identify when a physical inspection or specialist input is required.
  • Experience of reviewing technical reports and providing clear, constructive feedback.
  • Ability to assess and respond to technical referrals, explain decisions and support less experienced colleagues.
