At SuperCoin, we’re building regulated financial infrastructure for Africa. Our core product, ZARsc, is a ZAR-backed stablecoin issued on public block chain rails and backed 1:1 by fiat reserves held at a South African bank. It enables fast, low-cost settlement across  exchanges, payment partners, enterprise flows and remittance corridors.

We are starting with the Rand, with a broader roadmap to launch a family of African fiat-backed stablecoins – unlocking more efficient, accessible financial systems across the continent.

This role combines technical leadership, architecture ownership, and execution, requiring a Web3-native and AI-native mindset with the ability to operate in a regulated environment without compromising speed or innovation.

What you’ll do

You’ll take ownership of work that gives us our competitive edge, including:

Technology Strategy & Architecture

• Define and execute the end-to-end technology vision and roadmap, aligning with business and regulatory requirements

• Own the full technical stack, including:

  • Stablecoin issuance (ZARsc)

  • Custody and wallet infrastructure

  • On-chain settlement and reconciliation

  • Banking, card, and partner integrations

  • AI enablement layer across product and operations

• Anchor scalable, secure architecture across blockchain, fintech, and enterprise systems

Product Delivery (Supercoin App)

• Lead the build and delivery of the Supercoin consumer wallet:

  • Send, spend, receive, and top-up functionality

  • Neobank-grade user experience

  • Agentic (AI-driven) features embedded in the product

• Ensure rapid, high-quality delivery, balancing speed, resilience, and regulatory compliance

Custody, Settlement & Financial Infrastructure

• Own custody and key management architecture, including:

  • MPC vaults and signing infrastructure

  • Mint/burn processes for stablecoin lifecycle

  • Backup, disaster recovery, and resilience models

• Oversee on-chain settlement and reconciliation across:

  • Blockchain rails

  • Banking systems

  • Card/payment networks

Integration & Platform Strategy

• Establish an integration-first platform model:

  • Build reusable rails for on/off ramps, scan-to-pay, and enterprise flows

  • Avoid bespoke integrations by delivering scalable, repeatable solutions

• Enable seamless integration across partners, merchants, and financial institutions

AI Enablement (Product & Operations)

• Embed AI across the product and organisation, including: Agentic capabilities within the wallet experience

• Internal tools to improve:

  • Operational efficiency and reconciliation

  • Customer support and case management

  • AML and compliance workflows

• Drive adoption of AI to remove operational friction and scale efficiently

Security, Compliance & Risk

• Own the security posture of the platform:

  • Infrastructure security

  • Key management security

  • Application-layer security

• Lead incident response, monitoring, and resilience planning

• Provide technical leadership for regulatory engagement, audits, and inspections

• Ensure alignment with financial regulatory requirements across South Africa and broader African markets

Leadership & Team Build

• Build and scale a high-performing engineering organisation

• Lead engineers, architects, and product teams through:

  • Clear technical direction

  • Coaching and mentorship

  • Performance and capability development

What you’ll bring

You’re someone who brings:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, commerce or a related field
• 5+ years managing development team(s) or department(s)
• 10+ years of practical experience in the full software development life cycle as a software engineer, software developer, automation engineer, engineering lead or engineering manager
• 5+ years of practical experience in fintech or digital payments domain
• Web3 native: public chains, smart contracts, wallet architecture, custody models, on-chain monitoring, DeFi, stablecoins/tokenisation
• AI native: you build with AI — stand up agentic product features and internal tooling that removes real operational load
• Comfortable in a regulated environment; pragmatic about build vs integrate
• Expertise in managing multiple software development projects simultaneously, with a track record of delivering on time and within scope
• Ability to grasp complex strategy issues and turn this into a technology roadmap.
• Strong understanding of software development, quality assurance, and data engineering principles
• Proven success in implementing Agile practices at scale (Scrum, SAFe, or similar frameworks)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively
• Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring high standards of quality in all outputs
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments and priorities, maintaining effectiveness in dynamic situations

Desirable skills you’ve got up your sleeve

It would be great if you also have some the following skills:

• Experience within fintech or digital payments space

• Experience in software engineering of digital payment platforms

• Knowledge in artificial intelligence, cloud computing and cybersecurity

• Certified SAFe agile practitioner certification

• Relevant product management certification

• Prior involvement in managing budgets and vendor relationships

• Additional qualifications in scaled Agile frameworks or relevant professional certifications
