Description
As an Illumina Staff Product Engineer, you will be responsible for the field health of Illumina’s consumables. From vendors to customers, from development to high volume production, you will be responsible for working across the organization to improve consumable field performance to ensure customers are getting the best products on the market.
Responsibilities:
Work with Process Engineering, Quality, Suppliers and Customer Support to lead investigations and troubleshoot production line issues related to consumable performance
Provide technical expertise and leadership to resolve issues
Analyze production and QC data, and test results, issues reports, and lend technical guidance
Provide analytical data support and product expertise for development teams
Work with Quality and product groups to resolve quality and reliability problems with customers
In conjunction with R&D, conduct controlled new product optimization tests (including DOEs) and experiments for release into production environment
Drive product performance improvements with field performance monitoring and continuous improvement, investigation, leadership, and technical mentoring
Assist in defining technical requirements for new products
Provide feedback of information to process owners and lead teams to resolve quality issues
Recommend and implement new QC techniques where needed
Conduct risk assessments for design changes to on market products
Collaborate with development teams and subject matter experts to find root cause for on market investigations
Required Background:
Strong background in molecular biology and biochemistry
Hands-on experience with DNA and RNA library prep methods for NGS (next generation sequencing)
Some experience with NGS, preferably with Illumina sequencing platforms
Solid data analysis skills and a logical approach to problem solving
High level computer data analysis and statistical knowledge
Good interdepartmental communication and documentation skills
Successful project management experience
Experience in manufacturing support/sustaining and transferring products from R&D to production preferred
Experience with Statistical Process Control and DOE techniques
Experience with high volume manufacturing in a high-tech, high-volume consumables industry
Experience with product development processes and project management
Education:
We typically require a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
