About the role
The Supervisor, Shaft Mechanical / Site Services supervises, and coordinates maintenance activities related to shaft mechanical equipment and site service infrastructure in a Surface and underground potash mining operation. Assists tradespeople in troubleshooting equipment and system issues through observations, technical expertise, and operational experience while ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
What will you do?
Lead and promote a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with company policies, mining regulations, and industry best practices.
Supervise and coordinate maintenance activities for shaft mechanical systems, including hoists, shaft conveyors, pumping systems, piping, ventilation equipment, and underground infrastructure.
Oversee site service systems including water distribution, compressed air, heating, ventilation, and facility support equipment.
Develop and execute daily and weekly maintenance schedules aligned with production requirements and planned shutdowns.
Coordinate preventative maintenance programs and ensure all PM work orders are completed as scheduled.
Monitor equipment reliability and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and cost reduction.
Review maintenance work order feedback to ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality documentation.
Provide strong field leadership by overseeing safe execution of maintenance work and ensuring adherence to precision maintenance practices.
Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
Lead, mentor, and develop maintenance employees to build a high-performing team.
Coordinate with Operations, Engineering, Planning, and Reliability teams to optimize equipment performance and availability.
Manage contractor activities and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
Support outage planning and execution for major maintenance projects.
What do you need for this role?
High School Diploma/GED required.
Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic (Millwright), Heavy Duty Mechanic, Pipefitter, or related Mechanical Trade certification preferred.
Supervisory or leadership experience in mining, industrial, or heavy manufacturing environments.
5+ years of maintenance experience in mining, processing, industrial, or heavy equipment operations.
Experience maintaining shaft hoisting systems, conveyors, pumps, piping systems, or other heavy mechanical equipment is preferred.
Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
SAP maintenance experience preferred.
Strong understanding of mine safety regulations and safe work practices.
Excellent troubleshooting, planning, organizational, and communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to work effectively in both surface and underground mining environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Potash mining or underground mining experience.
Saskatchewan Underground Supervisor Certification or equivalent mining supervisory certification.
Experience leading unionized maintenance workforces.
Knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and continuous improvement methodologies.
Experience with shaft sinking, shaft maintenance, hoisting equipment, or site utility systems.
