POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanic will be responsible for locating sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation. Mechanics remove defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts. The Mechanic determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments. Additionally, Mechanics will need to document any maintenance that may take place.

KEY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs on cup packagers and carton sealing.

2. Perform preventive maintenance of Paper Machinery (PMC) and Thermoforming Cup Forming Machines.

3. Perform preventive maintenance and repair of carton sealer and related conveying equipment.

4. Properly and accurately, complete all required records keeping, ordering and other necessary paperwork.

5. Proper use and adherence to Lockout/Tagout Procedures.

6. Must follow precise instructions and directions.

7. Ability to read blueprints and technical diagrams.

8. Perform other duties as directed.

9. Practice good housekeeping.

10. Obey all safety rules, regulations and policies.

11. Perform tool changeovers on PMC and Sherwood cup forming machines.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

1. High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.

2. Vocational school in related subjects desired; demonstrated mechanical ability; six months or more related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

3. Regularly required to stand for long periods; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools and controls; reach with hands and arms.

4. Good handgrip strength is required.

5. Good hand-eye coordination is essential.

6. Frequently required to climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl.

7. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

8. Work near moving mechanical part, and occasionally in outside weather conditions.

9. Ability to work in high room temperatures and humidity.

10. Exposed to and/or inhale fumes and/or airborne particles from cleaning fluids, mineral oil, synthetic gear oils, paint and Isopropyl Alcohol.

11. Exposed to machine parts operating at extremely high temperatures.

1. Read and comprehend complex, detailed instructions and correspondence.

2. Write simple correspondence.

3. Effectively present information orally in a one-on-one or small group situation.

4. Apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions.

5. Deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.

6. Add, subtract, multiply and divide, in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

7. Read a ruler in 1/32 of inch increments, dials, micrometers and various pieces of measuring equipment to within .001 of inch accuracy.
