Job Description
Provide employee relations expertise and support in line with the overall Human Resources Strategy, and to enable the building of optimal relationships with employees and, where applicable their representatives, whilst simultaneously ensuring compliance to applicable labour laws and regulations and active mitigation of associated risksResponsibilities
Employee Relations Case Management
Investigate, and propose solutions for, very complex and/or contentious employee relations cases in liaison with line managers; coordinate the organization's response to legal cases brought by individuals; contribute to the preparation of legal submissions, and ensure all parties complete casework accurately and within deadlines.
Employee Representatives Relationship Management
Contribute to the management of relationships with employee representative organizations; build effective working relationships with senior trade union representatives and/or members of the works council; prepare and present briefing papers to support consultations and negotiations.
Internal Client Relationship Management
Contribute to the management of partnering relationships with internal clients, building effective working relationships and providing high-quality professional services to support in delivering business strategy and plans.
Information and Business Advice
Provide specialist advice on the interpretation and application of policies and procedures, resolving queries and issues and referring very complex or contentious issues to others.
Policies and Procedures Development
Contribute to the drafting of policies, procedures, and related guidelines within an area of expertise to meet defined key principles and ensure compliance with external requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement
Contribute to stakeholder engagement by identifying stakeholders; by finding out their needs, issues, and concerns; and by reacting to these needs, issues, and concerns, arranging meetings and events and drafting supporting materials to promote understanding and commitment.
Personal Capability Building
Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
Document Preparation
Edit document in line with organizational style guidelines and prepare information for publication.
Data Collection and Analysis
Conduct research using primary data sources, and select information needed for the analysis of key themes and trends.
Operational Compliance
Maintain and renew a deep knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, and ensure own work adheres to required standards. Or identify, within the team, patterns of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and with relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, taking appropriate action to report and resolve these and escalating issues as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on disciplinary, grievance, appeal, retrenchment, and labour dispute matters.
- Manage complex employee relations cases, investigations, and Labour Commissioner matters.
- Ensure compliance with Namibian labour legislation and company policies.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with trade unions, employee representatives, and key stakeholders.
- Draft disciplinary charges, legal agreements, legal opinions, and ER-related documentation.
- Support the development and implementation of HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct ER training and awareness sessions for managers and employees.
- Analyse employee relations trends and provide recommendations to enhance workplace relations.
Minimum Requirements
- Namibian citizen.
- Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB), Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
- Admission as a Legal Practitioner will be an added advantage.
- 3-5 years' relevant experience in Employee Relations, Labour Relations, and/or Labour Law.
- Sound knowledge of Namibian labour legislation and dispute resolution processes.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, conflict management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and report-writing abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and perform effectively under pressure.
