Description of Work
This position is responsible for administering the Disability Income Plan of NC for eligible NC DOT employees as well as any other insurance-related issues, including but not limited to agency-specific deductions, and general insurance questions. This position is to advise and explain the benefits and employees' options concerning disability income. This position will be responsible for claims processing which will include form review for accuracy and completeness (dates, dollar amounts and mathematical data). Apply knowledge of the Retirement System’s disability program and interpret disability laws.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC 15 $55,221 - $96,639
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Experience processing disability benefits
- Experience reviewing and processing high volumes of claims or applications claims --such as disability insurance, unemployment, child support payments, and bank loans
- Skill in Microsoft Excel to perform mathematical tasks such as verifying benefit calculations and payment amount’s
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with employers through verbal and written correspondence (via Microsoft Word)
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree, typically in Human Resources or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 years of experience required; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and 5 years of progressive experience in Human Resources; or equivalent combination or education and experience.
