Description
Job title: Purchasing Manager
Reports to: Director of Finance
Supervisory responsibilities: Purchasing Department (current headcount: 2)
Summary/objective: The Purchasing Manager is responsible for all purchasing functions, optimizing vendor relationships, and maintaining budgetary controls on certain expenses.
Essential functions:
- Develop overall strategy for the purchasing department, balancing cost and performance.
- Supervise, coach, and develop the purchasing team.
- Identify and qualify potential new vendors.
- Negotiate and review vendor contracts.
- Lead purchasing continuous improvement meetings.
- Collaborate with design departments and project managers to order stock list items so that materials are available for jobs when required, while minimizing materials stored on the floor.
- Work with the Director of Finance and other department heads to control costs by maintaining certain expenses within established budgetary goals.
- Purchase all required materials for jobs and shops by following established accounting procedures and using material requisition forms, purchase orders, and receipt of goods through the Company’s accounting software.
- Purchase necessary items, using vendors that supply the best price, quality and delivery.
- Provide information on shipments, returns, credits and price changes to A/P department.
- Improve tracking and reporting of materials, distribution, storage and inventory.
- Maintain SDS paperwork and follow all of Company’s safety policies.
- Carry out ISO 9001-2015 requirements.
Required competency, education, and experience:
- Candidate must have a high school diploma
- Candidate must have valid driver’s license
- Candidate must have good communication and people skills
- Candidate must demonstrate professional demeanor
- Candidate must have good organizational skills
- Candidate must have strong knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Excel
Preferred education and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
- Previous experience in automation and integration is a plus
Work environment: Office setting in a manufacturing environment.
Physical demands:
- Candidate must be able to lift 40 pounds.
- Candidate must have full use of all limbs.
Position type and expected hours of work: Full time, in office.
Travel: <5%
