About Our Branch

The Valdez-Perry Branch Library is a dynamic hub in the middle of the Elyria neighborhood but also serves the Globeville and Swansea communities. We are committed to offering services that demonstrate the library’s values of Connection, Curiosity, Equity, Stewardship, and Welcoming in action. We have people of all ages but have a big presence of young people that use our resources to fulfill their needs. We offer valuable service to our neighbors in Spanish and English (computers, tech help, printing and copying, and more) while doing outreach to the community as a whole. We work together with our community partners to find ways to connect people with resources in our service area.
 

About Our Position

Are you energetic, organized, and passionate about supporting local youth? The Valdez-Perry Library is looking for a Youth Assistant to join our team! In this role, you’ll be a key player in bringing library programs to life, helping kids engage in fun activities, and supporting our Healthy Food for Denver’s Kids initiative to ensure our youth stay nourished and ready to learn.

What You Would Bring

• Ability to order, organize, track deliveries for, and distribute healthy snacks to youth patrons.

• Ability to build strong, positive, and supportive relationships with the youth who visit the library.

• Ability to create eye-catching promotional materials to publicize upcoming youth events and activities.

• Ability to help organize and carry out community events from start to finish.

• Ability to prepare program areas by setting up tables, chairs, equipment, and presenter materials, and clean up after events.

• Ability to greet attendees and ensure everyone signs in prior to programs.

• Ability to work directly alongside program leads and children to facilitate fun, hands-on activities.

• Ability to assist library staff with various tasks while programs are in session and lend a hand with general library duties as needed.

Our ideal candidate has the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

• Must be between the ages of 14-19

• Spanish preferred

• A genuine passion for working with children and youth in a community setting.

• Dependable, adaptable, and eager to assist library staff and presenters.

• Strong attention to detail when tracking snack deliveries, organizing inventory, and keeping event areas clean and welcoming.

• Comfortable creating promotional materials and connecting warmly with library patrons.

Work Environment & Location

The Denver Public Library's branches are the arms to the community—each a unique reflection of the dynamic, diverse communities we serve. At DPL, we pride ourselves on showing up and providing support whenever there is a need. 

While you may be hired for a specific location, please know that we are hiring with the expectation that at any time, you may be required to work at any one of our branches based on operational needs. This allows our staff to experience the full breadth of Denver's communities and ensures we consistently deliver the highest level of service across our branches.

Additionally, DPL employees may be redeployed to work in other locations or capacities to support core functions of the library system during branch closures or other emergencies.
