What is an SAP IS-U Functional Analyst?

An SAP ISU Functional Analyst is a professional who bridges business process requirements with the technical SAP ISU landscape.  A functional analyst is a subject matter expert who translates complex business needs into efficient solutions within the SAP ISU environment.  The role requires a deep understanding of business processes and SAP configuration and capabilities for rolling out new functionality as well as maintaining the system.

What does an SAP IS-U Functional Analyst do?

  • Acts as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams.  Gathers and collaborates closely with the business, stake holders, system owners and end users to define business requirements, system goals and identify/resolve system issues.

  • Manages small to medium-sized SAP enhancement projects

  • Actively participates in all stages of the System Development Life Cycle for SAP modifications, including planning, analysis, design, requirements definition, functional design, development, testing, implementation, and training including:

    • Ensuring the solution is relevant, maintainable, reasonable, and adheres to Central Hudson standards

    • Reviewing User Acceptance Testing for completeness including verifying the testing proof is sufficient; verifying both positive and negative test cases

    • Verifying all documentation is updated and maintained

    • Participating in Knowledge Transfer sessions

    • Performing post implementation review

  • Acts as a technical leader including

    • Provide expert level support of day-to-day activities

    • Perform triage on new incidents including analysis, evaluation, and recommendations

    • Coordinate priorities with the business

    • Follow up on all outstanding items

    • Make configuration changes to meet business requirements

    • Collaborate closely with ABAP developers to provide clear requirements, assist with debugging and provide robust testing scenarios

    • Propose system improvements

  • Ensures relevant documentation is updated including:

    • Business Requirements Documents

    • Requirements within the Requirements Traceability Matrix

    • Functional Specifications

  • Monitors upcoming SAP releases for enhancements that would benefit Central Hudson

  • Provides support for storm restoration efforts

What does it take to be an SAP IS-U Functional Analyst?

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, STEM or a related field and 3+ years of related professional experience in areas such as SAP development or administration, systems programming, information systems development, or a closely related field. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, candidates with an Associate’s degree in the aforementioned fields and at least 5+ years of related professional experience in areas such as SAP development or administration, systems programming, information systems development, or a closely related field will be considered.

  • A minimum of 12 months’ experience in SAP or with a regulated utility.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels

  • Must demonstrate the willingness to work in a collaborative team environment to deliver a quality product

  • Strong leadership, negotiation and consultative skills at a cross-functional level

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred:

  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA (2023 or later)

  • Experience with SAP’s IS-U solution (Industry-Specific Solution for Utilities

  • Familiarity with SAP Fiori (configuration, security, and deployment)

  • Experience with SAP Customer Experience solutions (C4C)

  • Knowledge of SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP)

  • Exposure to SAP Joule (AI capabilities)

  • Experience in a regulated utilities environment

  • Organizational Change Management experience

  • Lean Six Sigma training
