Description

We are working closely with a local authority in East Hertfordshire to assist with the appointment of an Electoral Services Assistant, on a 3-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £15.01- £19.62 per hour

Summary:

The Electoral Services Assistant provides high-quality administrative and operational support to the Electoral Services team, ensuring the accurate maintenance of the Register of Electors and supporting the successful delivery of all local, parliamentary, and other statutory elections. The postholder is responsible for processing electoral registration applications, maintaining electoral records, assisting with the Annual Canvass, and supporting election planning and administration in accordance with electoral legislation and statutory deadlines.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update the Electoral Register database, ensuring elector and property records are accurate and current.
  • Assess eligibility for electoral registration by applying electoral legislation relating to nationality, age, residency, immigration status, and entitlement to vote.
  • Undertake identity verification procedures, including processing evidence requests and handling sensitive personal information in accordance with statutory requirements and data protection legislation.
  • Assist in planning and delivering the Annual Canvass in accordance with electoral legislation and Electoral Commission guidance.
  • Ensure compliance with electoral legislation, Council policies, GDPR, safeguarding requirements, and information governance standards.

Qualifications:

  • Good standard of education, including GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • Good understanding of administrative procedures and customer service principles.

Essentials:

  • Experience in an administrative or clerical role involving accurate data entry and record management.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications and electronic database systems.
  • Experience communicating effectively by telephone, email, written correspondence, and face-to-face.
