Production Team Leader
Location: Wrexham, North Wales
Function: Manufacturing
Reporting to: Production Manager
About the Role
We are seeking a Production Team Leader to join our Manufacturing team in Wrexham. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced manufacturing professional to lead a team within a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment.
As a Production Team Leader, you will be responsible for ensuring manufacturing activities are carried out safely, efficiently and in compliance with quality standards. You will lead, coach and develop a team of production colleagues while driving operational performance, continuous improvement and a positive workplace culture.
Working closely with Quality, Engineering, Operational Excellence and other support functions, you will play a key role in delivering production targets and supporting site objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, motivate and support a high-performing production team.
- Conduct regular performance and development conversations.
- Coach and mentor team members to build skills, capability and confidence.
- Identify training and development needs and support employee growth.
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative and accountable team environment.
Production Operations
- Ensure manufacturing activities are completed safely and in line with production plans.
- Coordinate resources effectively to achieve production targets.
- Work closely with Engineering teams to support maintenance, calibration and validation activities.
- Monitor operational performance and contribute to improving productivity, quality and efficiency.
- Escalate and help resolve operational issues to minimise disruptions.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with GMP requirements and site procedures.
- Support the review of manufacturing documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure deviations, incidents and quality issues are appropriately recorded, investigated and addressed.
- Maintain a strong inspection-ready culture across the manufacturing area.
- Promote adherence to all quality systems and regulatory requirements.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Promote a strong safety culture and lead by example.
- Ensure all team members follow health, safety and environmental procedures.
- Support risk assessments, investigations and corrective actions where required.
- Ensure colleagues have appropriate training, equipment and resources to work safely.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance safety, quality and efficiency.
- Support operational excellence initiatives and improvement projects.
- Use structured problem-solving techniques to investigate issues and identify sustainable solutions.
- Encourage continuous improvement ideas from across the team.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Build strong working relationships across Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering and support functions.
- Support effective communication between departments to deliver business objectives.
- Share knowledge, best practice and lessons learned to improve overall performance.
About You
We're looking for a people-focused leader with manufacturing experience who enjoys developing teams and driving operational excellence.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience leading or supervising teams within a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of GMP principles and quality management systems.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple activities effectively.
- Experience supporting operational performance, compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capability.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, medical device or other regulated manufacturing sectors.
- Knowledge of aseptic manufacturing environments.
- Experience with isolator or RABS technology.
- Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Understanding of SAP, MRP systems or similar manufacturing systems.
- Basic knowledge of microbiology within a manufacturing setting.
Qualifications
- Qualification in a scientific, engineering or related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- Further leadership, operational excellence or continuous improvement qualifications would be advantageous.
