Job Description:

The Vice President of Addiction Services reports to the President of Behavioral Services and provides executive leadership for the strategic direction, operational performance, financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and continued growth of the Addiction Services continuum across Beth Israel Lahey Health Behavioral Services (BILHBS). Working in a dyadic partnership with the Medical Director of Addiction Services, the Vice President is responsible for the oversight and advancement of a comprehensive, integrated system of addiction care. This includes inpatient withdrawal management, clinical stabilization services, residential treatment, recovery housing, Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs), medication clinics, and all associated inpatient and outpatient addiction services. The Vice President collaborates closely with physician leaders, hospital executives, and system stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care while advancing organizational strategy, clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and sustainable growth across the continuum of addiction services. 

The Vice President is responsible for ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care; regulatory, accreditation, and licensing compliance; workforce planning and development; financial performance; quality outcomes; and operational excellence. This role leads strategic planning, program growth, and process improvement initiatives while fostering collaboration across Behavioral Services, BILH, and community partners to advance access to integrated, evidence-based substance use disorder treatment. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Leads Addiction Services in a dyadic partnership with the Medical Director of Addiction Services, collaborating with the Director of Nursing to drive strategy, operational excellence, and the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based care across the continuum.  

  • Reinforces a culture of accountability and teamwork through clear performance metrics and data-driven decision-making.  

  • Accountable for the full employee lifecycle management of direct and indirect reports, including workforce planning, recruitment and hiring, role deployment, performance evaluation, leadership development, and employee relations in alignment with organizational policies and compliance requirements.  

  • Drive performance visibility and accountability. Maintain full operational visibility across staffing models, supply utilization, Epic workflows, and front-end revenue cycle across all addiction treatment services. Identify and implement best practices and reduce program variation where appropriate 

  • Maintains current expertise in evidence-based practices, trauma-informed care, and wraparound services; monitors and translates federal and state policy and regulatory changes into organizational strategy, program design, and policy implementation, while representing the agency in key external forums.  

  • Leads budget development and ongoing financial oversight, including revenue and expense forecasting, variance analysis, and real-time monitoring to ensure alignment with financial targets and timely corrective adjustments.  

  • Develop and execute the strategic vision for Addiction Services, aligning programmatic, operational, and growth initiatives with the mission and goals of BILH Behavioral Services. Identify opportunities for service expansion, innovation, and new care delivery models to address emerging community needs, improve access to care, and advance integrated substance use disorder treatment across the continuum.  

  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, quality improvement, and risk management while partnering with clinical and operational leaders to monitor quality outcomes and patient experience.  

  • Cultivate strong partnerships with health system leaders, hospitals, community organizations, government agencies, academic institutions, and payers to advance addiction treatment services, research, workforce development, and recovery-oriented systems of care. 

  • Provides executive leadership and oversight for directors, managers, and supervisors across the division. Responsible for talent acquisition, performance management, employee development, succession planning, and fostering a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws. 

Qualifications and Education 

  • Master's degree preferred, and at least 10+ years of significant and graduated leadership responsibility within Addiction treatment, including clinical operations and financial management, preferably at a senior level in a large, geographically distributed network. 

  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of addiction services operations, finance, workforce management, health IT, Epic, and performance management, with expertise in advancing quality, safety, patient experience, and clinical outcomes across a diverse service portfolio. 

  • Proven executive leader with a strong market presence, exceptional relationship-building skills, and the ability to lead complex organizational change across hospital-based and ambulatory settings. Successfully translates strategy into execution while fostering accountability through a dyad leadership model. 

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, or PowerPoint and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.  

  • Familiarity with CARF requirements/procedures. Familiarity with BSAS/DPH, DMH, and other regulatory policies/procedures. 

 

 

Pay Range:

$180,000.00 USD - $220,000.00 USD

The pay range listed for this position is the annual base salary range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time.  In addition to base compensation, this position may be eligible for additional compensation, which may include performance-based incentive bonuses.
