The Senior Portfolio Manager – Core Lab is responsible for the strategic and commercial management of a clinical diagnostics portfolio, with primary responsibility for clinical chemistry and immunoassay (CCIA) and additional responsibility across hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, LC-MS, and select point-of-care diagnostics.

This role serves as the business and relationship lead for assigned supplier partners, driving profitable growth and performance against annual operating plan (AOP) objectives. The Senior Portfolio Manager will manage supplier relationships, lead business reviews and commercial negotiations, identify growth opportunities, and develop and execute portfolio and supplier strategies.

The ideal candidate brings clinical diagnostics experience, strong commercial judgment and executive presence, and the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution while managing multiple priorities. Experience with capital instrumentation is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the business relationship for assigned supplier partners, driving alignment, performance, and profitable growth.
  • Develop and execute portfolio and supplier strategies, manage performance against AOP objectives, and identify opportunities to accelerate growth and optimize business performance.
  • Lead supplier business reviews, including performance analysis, business updates, opportunities, risks, and action plans.
  • Negotiate commercial terms with suppliers, including pricing, rebates, and marketing funding; partner with Legal and other stakeholders on contractual agreements.
  • Build strong, collaborative supplier relationships while effectively managing negotiations, aligning priorities, and driving shared business objectives.
  • Identify and evaluate new suppliers, products, technologies, and portfolio opportunities.
  • Lead new product launches and supplier introductions, driving cross-functional readiness and commercial execution.
  • Partner with Marketing and suppliers to develop and execute marketing programs, sales tools, campaigns, and other growth initiatives.
  • Serve as a portfolio subject matter expert for the organization, providing product, market, competitive, and technical guidance and presenting effectively to sales teams, supplier partners, and leadership.
  • Analyze market dynamics, business performance, pricing, margin, and forecasts to develop business cases and inform portfolio decisions.
  • Develop pricing and positioning strategies that support profitable growth.
  • Partner across Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, Capital Contracting, Purchasing, Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, Legal, Product Administration, Learning and Development, and other Thermo Fisher Scientific teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Secure supplier support and funding for strategic sales, marketing, training, and commercial programs.
  • Take ownership of business issues, engage the appropriate stakeholders, and drive timely resolution.
  • Effectively prioritize and manage multiple suppliers, projects, deadlines, and business needs while maintaining focus on longer-term objectives.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in science, business, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience in the clinical diagnostics or laboratory products industry, including experience in product or portfolio management, channel management, supplier management, commercial sales, or a related function.
  • Experience with or strong knowledge of clinical chemistry and immunoassay (CCIA), including an understanding of laboratory workflows, instrumentation, assays, reagents and consumables, competitive platforms, and customer requirements. Experience with capital instrumentation is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working within a distribution model or managing distributors/channel partners for a diagnostics manufacturer is highly valued.
  • Additional knowledge or experience across hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, LC-MS, and/or point-of-care diagnostics is beneficial.
  • Previous clinical laboratory experience, including experience as a medical laboratory scientist/medical technologist or in a related laboratory role, is beneficial but not required.
  • Strong commercial, financial, and analytical acumen, with the ability to interpret business performance, pricing, margin, forecasts, and market dynamics and use data to inform decisions and recommendations.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, translating portfolio and supplier strategies into actionable plans and results.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong business relationships, negotiate effectively, align priorities, and influence across internal and external stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple suppliers, projects, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining focus on longer-term objectives.
  • Strong judgment, ownership, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to bring together cross-functional partners and deliver results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the confidence and executive presence to effectively represent the business with commercial teams, supplier partners, and leadership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other standard business applications.
  • Ability to travel domestically approximately 20–25%.
