Position Summary
Holmes Motors is seeking a Customer Verification & Approval Specialist to review and verify customer applications and provide final approval before a vehicle is delivered.
This is not a traditional bank underwriting position. Our process focuses on verifying that the information provided by the customer is accurate, confirming income and employment, reviewing the customer's ability to afford the payment, and making sure the completed deal meets Holmes Motors' approval requirements.
The right person will have strong attention to detail, good judgment, excellent customer service skills, and some previous experience in underwriting, lending, automotive finance, collections, banking, or a similar financial/customer verification role.
Key Responsibilities
- Review customer credit applications for completeness and accuracy.
- Verify employment and income using paystubs, bank statements, employer verification, or other approved documentation.
- Compare the customer's stated income and expenses to the supporting documentation.
- Review the customer's monthly budget and determine whether the proposed vehicle payment reasonably fits within that budget.
- Identify inconsistencies, missing information, or potential misrepresentations on applications.
- Communicate with customers professionally when additional information or documentation is needed.
- Work with the sales team to resolve application issues without unnecessarily delaying the customer.
- Perform the final approval after the customer has selected a vehicle.
- Verify that the selected vehicle and payment meet Holmes Motors' approval guidelines.
- Confirm that required insurance coverage is active and properly documented before final delivery.
- Make sure all required information and documentation are complete before giving final approval.
- Follow established underwriting and verification procedures consistently across all customers and stores.
- Escalate unusual or higher-risk situations to management when appropriate.
- Maintain accurate notes and documentation explaining verification and approval decisions.
- Provide excellent customer service while protecting Holmes Motors from fraud, inaccurate applications, and deals that do not meet company guidelines.
Requirements
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in underwriting, lending, automotive finance, banking, collections, loan processing, credit verification, or a similar field.
- Strong ability to review income and financial documentation.
- Good judgment and the ability to make consistent approval decisions.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to ask customers difficult or detailed financial questions in a professional and respectful manner.
- Ability to recognize inconsistencies or potential fraud without making assumptions.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced automotive sales environment.
- Ability to work closely with sales managers while remaining independent and following company approval standards.
- Strong computer and documentation skills.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Customer Verification & Approval Specialist helps Holmes Motors approve good customers, prevent bad deals, and create a smooth customer experience.
This position is not about finding reasons to decline customers. It is about making sure we have accurate information, the customer's payment fits their budget, the required insurance is in place, and the deal meets Holmes Motors' standards before the customer drives away.
The specialist must be able to balance risk management, consistency, speed, and customer service while making sound final approval decisions.
Preferred Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in one or more of the following is preferred:
- Automotive finance, underwriting, consumer lending, banking, credit verification, loan processing, collections, or dealership finance.
