FRANKLIN ATHLETICS | JERSEY CITY
Assistant Coach, Fencing
Season: Winter. November 30 - March 15
Schedule: Part-time; weekday afternoons and some weekends
Stipend: $4000
Reports to: Head Coach and Director of Athletics
The role
Franklin Athletics gives every student a place to participate, compete and grow, alongside serious academics. As an assistant coach you'll run real parts of the program: planning practices, coaching in games, supervising athletes.
What we're looking for
Required
- High school, club and/or collegiate coaching experience.
- Current adult CPR/AED and Basic First Aid certification with an in-person skills test.
- Completion of the NJSIAA coaching education below before your first practice.
- A clear criminal history background check and professional references.
- Availability for weekday afternoons and some weekends during the season.
- Experience working with a range of ability levels in one program.
You'll do best here if you're organized, reliable, and flexible with your coaching and time
What you'll do
Coach
- Plan and lead practices with the Head Coach that build individual skill and team progression.
- Competition coaching and preparation
- Teach teamwork, accountability and sportsmanship by how your actions
- Inventory uniforms and equipment before the season; collect everything at the end.
- Report final scores to the Athletic Director within 60 minutes of the contest ending.
- Send the AD seasonal updates: progress, highlights and an end-of-season recap.
Keep athletes safe
- Supervise athletes from the end of the school day until they are dismissed from practice or competition.
- Travel with the team on school transportation to and from away practices and contests.
- Follow all school and NJSIAA protocols for health and safety.
- Report every injury/incident to the Director of Athletics and Health Assistant within 24 hours.
- Uphold our zero-tolerance hazing policy and the NFHS Coaches Code of Conduct.
- Take daily attendance and track individual and team statistics.
