  • Kenntnisse in quantitativen MR-Verfahren (z.

English version

The art of measurement — made in Germany. Striving to perfect it is the mission of the 2,100 employees of PTB, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt. As Germany’s national metrology institute and a leading center of research, we operate in an international environment to develop world-class measurement standards. We at PTB work to ensure that people and organizations can trust the measurements they use.

At our Berlin site, we are looking to fill the following position in Division 8 (Medical Physics and Metrological Information Technology):

Postdoc Quantitative MRI, Inverse Problems and Deep Learning – Physics, Applied Mathematics or Scientific Computing
Remuneration Group 13 TVöD Bund ○ Fixed-term contract until 30 June 2030 ○ Full-time

Your tasks:

As part of the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre (SFB) Matrix in Vision, subproject “C03 – Quantitative Imaging” provides standardised magnetic resonance (MR) methods to support various application projects. In addition, new fast MR acquisition methods are being combined with deep-learning-based reconstruction methods on the open-source platform MRpro, for different classes of parameters (e.g. MR relaxation time measurements and MR elastography). One focus is the development of elastography for non-invasive pressure measurement, including the determination of parameter uncertainty under the influence of deep-learning methods. The work is carried out in collaboration between PTB and Charité. Several MR research scanners (3-tesla MRI systems) with extensive measurement capabilities are available. Your activities will include:

  • Supporting the application-oriented subprojects by providing standardised quantitative MR acquisition methods (in particular relaxometry and elastography)
  • Implementing standardised reconstruction methods as part of the open-source platform MRpro
  • Developing fast quantitative MR methods that use new deep-learning-based approaches to solve the inverse problem
  • Investigating the uncertainty of quantitative parameters in MR relaxometry and MR elastography under the influence of deep-learning methods
  • Experimental validation of the methods

Your profile:

  • Completed university degree (Diplom/Master’s) and a doctorate in physics, applied mathematics, scientific computing or a comparable field
  • Sound knowledge of MR imaging (data acquisition and/or reconstruction)
  • Knowledge of quantitative MR methods (e.g. relaxometry or elastography) or of Bayesian statistics is an advantage
  • Experience with deep-learning methods or signal theory
  • Experience in scientific programming (Python, PyTorch)
  • Confident interaction and good communication skills with biomedical users
  • Independent, committed and goal-oriented scientific working style
  • You are a strong team player with excellent communication skills
  • You have achieved C1 level in English and B2 for German
  • You are willing to travel for work both in Germany and abroad

We offer:

  • Challenging research and project work with national and international relevance
  • Work with state-of-the-art research infrastructure in a scientifically excellent environment
  • Opportunities to shape your own area of expertise and to work independently
  • Flexible working-time models, family-friendly conditions and pay in line with the collective agreement
  • Targeted training and professional development opportunities, including specialisation in your field
