Supervises: N/A

Status: Full-Time or Part-Time, 20–40 hours per week; 30–40 hours preferred

Schedule: Primarily weekday hours with flexibility to meet organizational training needs, including

approximately one evening training session per month.


Summary of Job Responsibilities


The MAP Trainer, RN is responsible for coordinating and delivering Medication Administration Program

(MAP) training and supporting the organization in maintaining a knowledgeable, competent, and

appropriately certified workforce. The primary focus of this position is to ensure that MAP certification, recertification, testing, and related training requirements are effectively managed and completed in accordance with applicable MAP requirements and organizational expectations. The MAP Trainer works closely with program leadership, Healthcare Services, Human Resources, and Training to identify upcoming certification needs, schedule training opportunities, monitor completion, and help prevent lapses in staff certification. When MAP training and certification responsibilities permit, the MAP Trainer will support the Healthcare Services team with program monitoring, medication administration oversight, healthcare-related training, audits, and other nursing activities consistent with the needs of the organization.


Essential Functions & Principal Duties and Responsibilities


1. Coordinate and conduct MAP certification and recertification training for employees in

accordance with applicable MAP requirements and organizational procedures.

2. Proctor required MAP testing and support employees through the certification and recertification

process.

3. Maintain an organized system for tracking MAP training, testing, certification, recertification,

and upcoming expiration dates.

4. Work proactively with program leadership and appropriate administrative departments to identify

staffing and certification needs and schedule training sufficiently in advance to maintain

appropriate MAP-certified staffing.

5. Follow up on incomplete training, testing, or certification requirements and communicate

concerns or potential certification gaps to appropriate leadership.

6. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of MAP training, testing, certification, and other

required records.

7. Provide regular updates regarding MAP training activity, certification status, upcoming needs,

and areas requiring management attention.

8. Serve as a resource to employees and managers regarding MAP training requirements,

medication administration practices, and related policies and procedures.

9. Conduct MAP and medication administration audits at program locations as assigned and assist

programs in identifying and correcting areas of noncompliance.

10. Provide specialized healthcare training as qualified and needed, including vital signs, high-alert

medications, G-tube care, oxygen, medical devices, infection control, seizure response, and other

healthcare-related topics.

11. Collaborate closely with the Director of Healthcare Services, Healthcare Coordinators, program

leadership, and other departments to promote consistent medication administration and healthcare

practices throughout the organization.

12. When MAP training responsibilities permit, conduct program visits and assist Healthcare

Coordinators with review and monitoring of healthcare documentation, medication administration

systems, medical orders, appointments, healthcare follow-up, and other areas related to the health

and safety of individuals served.

13. Assist in identifying opportunities to strengthen medication administration systems, healthcare

practices, training materials, policies, procedures, and staff competency.

14. Provide consultation and support to employees and managers regarding healthcare and

medication administration issues within the scope of the position and professional nursing

practice.

15. Promote and protect the rights, dignity, health, and safety of each person served.

16. Maintain professional communication and collaboration with employees, individuals served,

families and guardians, healthcare providers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders as

appropriate.

17. Participate in organizational quality improvement activities, meetings, committees, and initiatives

as assigned.

18. Maintain confidentiality and comply with all organizational policies, applicable regulations, and

professional nursing standards.

19. Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor related to the organization's mission, goals,

healthcare services, and operations.

Requirements

Education, Licensure & Experience


  • Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience is required.
  • Current MAP Trainer certification or ability to obtain MAP Trainer certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities or within
  • community-based human services strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of medication administration, healthcare documentation, infection control, and
  • community-based healthcare practices.
  • Experience providing adult education, employee training, or competency-based instruction
  • preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple training schedules,
  • deadlines, certification requirements, and follow-up activities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively train employees with
  • varying levels of experience and learning needs.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with nursing, program, training,
  • and administrative teams.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to independently travel to CHS program locations.
  • Current CPR certification.


Working Conditions


This position requires a flexible work schedule based on organizational training needs. Work will occur in

office and training environments as well as at CHS program locations. The position requires regular travel

between program sites.

The anticipated schedule is between 20 and 40 hours per week, with 30–40 hours preferred and

includes flexibility to provide approximately one evening training session per month and other schedule

adjustments when necessary to meet certification and training needs.


Physical & Professional Requirements


Must maintain current RN licensure and all certifications required for the position. The employee must be

able to exercise appropriate professional nursing judgment, communicate effectively with employees and

program leadership, use standard office and training technology, travel between program locations, and

successfully perform the essential functions of the position with reasonable accommodation as

appropriate.
