Veterinary Medical Director – Monrovia, CA
An established veterinary practice is seeking an experienced veterinarian to serve as Medical Director and provide clinical leadership to a collaborative veterinary team. This role combines hands-on veterinary medicine with leadership responsibilities, allowing the Medical Director to maintain an active patient caseload while guiding medical quality, team development, and clinical standards.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the clinical leader and primary medical resource for the practice.
- Establish, maintain, and uphold high standards of medical quality and patient care.
- Provide hands-on veterinary care while maintaining an active clinical caseload.
- Mentor, coach, and support associate veterinarians and veterinary team members.
- Conduct case reviews and provide guidance to promote consistent, high-quality medicine.
- Lead regular veterinary team meetings and facilitate discussions around medical standards and protocols.
- Develop and improve clinical procedures, workflows, and best practices.
- Collaborate with practice leadership on staffing, scheduling, team development, and operational priorities.
- Support recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and development of veterinary professionals.
- Promote effective communication and a positive, collaborative hospital culture.
- Oversee the appropriate use, maintenance, and compliance of medical equipment and resources.
- Support client education, community engagement, and initiatives that strengthen the practice.
- Maintain compliance with applicable veterinary laws, regulations, controlled-substance requirements, and professional standards.
- Serve as a clinical representative and advocate for the practice within the community.
- Support continuous improvement in patient outcomes, client experience, and medical quality.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Active veterinary license in good standing in the applicable state.
- Active DEA registration and any required state or local veterinary licenses or registrations.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience practicing veterinary medicine.
- Previous veterinary leadership or team management experience preferred.
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop veterinary professionals.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and delegation skills.
- Collaborative and approachable leadership style.
- Commitment to high-quality medicine, patient safety, and exceptional client care.
- Ability to maintain a hands-on clinical caseload while fulfilling leadership responsibilities.
- Commitment to working a full-time schedule.
