The Job: Senior Manager, Data Governance
As the Senior Manager, Data Governance, you will establish and operationalize the enterprise data governance framework, ensuring data ownership, stewardship, quality, accountability, compliance, data protection, and responsible data usage practices are embedded across the organization. You will partner with business, technology, security, risk, privacy, and compliance teams to ensure enterprise data is trusted, well-managed, appropriately protected, and aligned with regulatory and organizational requirements.
This role serves as the steward of the organization’s governance operating model, driving accountability, transparency, and trust in enterprise data assets while enabling business value realization, analytics, and AI initiatives.
What You’ll Do
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the enterprise data governance framework, operating model, policies, standards, and procedures.
- Establish and manage enterprise data stewardship and data ownership programs across business domains, ensuring clear accountability for critical data assets.
- Lead enterprise data quality initiatives, including quality standards, monitoring, issue management, remediation processes, and continuous improvement activities.
- Own enterprise metadata management, business glossary, data catalog adoption, and data ownership programs to improve understanding, discoverability, and transparency of enterprise information assets.
- Partner with Information Security, Risk, Privacy, and Compliance teams to define, align, and implement data classification standards, data protection practices, retention requirements, and governance controls that support enterprise security and regulatory obligations.
- Drive adoption of governance tools, stewardship processes, and governance best practices across business and technology teams.
- Measure and report governance maturity, stewardship effectiveness, metadata adoption, and data quality performance while recommending continuous improvement opportunities.
What You’ll Bring to the Table
Required
- 7–10 years of progressive experience in data governance, data management, data quality, information management, or related disciplines.
- Experience implementing enterprise data governance frameworks and stewardship operating models.
- Experience developing and implementing data quality frameworks.
- Experience developing and managing enterprise data quality programs.
- Experience with metadata management, business glossary development, and data catalog capabilities.
- Experience partnering with business and technology stakeholders to drive governance adoption and organizational change.
- Experience developing governance metrics, reporting, and maturity assessments.
- Experience collaborating with Information Security, Risk, Privacy, and Compliance teams.
Desired
- Experience within financial services or other highly regulated industries.
- Experience supporting regulatory, privacy, and compliance initiatives.
- Experience implementing governance technologies and metadata management platforms.
- Experience supporting AI governance, data ethics, or responsible AI programs. Experience leading enterprise-wide governance transformation initiatives.
Education + Professional Accreditations
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Data Management, Computer Science, Information Management, or a related discipline.
Desired
- Master’s degree in Data Management, Information Management, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP); DCAM (Data Management Capability Assessment Model); DAMA Certifications; Data Governance Certifications; Information Privacy Certifications; Risk Management Certifications; other governance, compliance, or information management credentials.
Please note: The salary range for this position is between C$ 140,000 to C$ 155,000.
