Description
Colorado Water Resources Engineering Leader
Location: Denver, CO | Type: Full-time | Salary: $160,000-$190,000 per year, plus annual performance bonus
The Opportunity
Lead and grow a Colorado water rights engineering practice at an employee-owned engineering and environmental sciences consulting firm. You'll be the senior technical voice on water rights and water supply, guide strategy on Colorado projects, and build the client relationships that expand the firm's presence across Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region. You'll also collaborate with teams on the firm's national platform. This role reports to the Regional Director.
What You'll Do
Lead and Grow Core Services
- Water supply planning and development
- Water budgets and water accounting frameworks
- River and stream system supply modeling
- Water transfers and strategic supply planning
- Water rights valuations
- Colorado water rights engineering: yield studies, changes, augmentation plans and accounting
- Expert analysis, testimony support and litigation support
Build the Business
- Grow a book of business across the Colorado and Rocky Mountain markets
- Develop long-term relationships with core clients
- Lead competitive pursuits alongside the marketing team
Lead Teams and Projects
- Build and manage a team to deliver an established pipeline of work
- Mentor team members and support their technical and professional growth
- Run multiple concurrent projects on time, on budget and to a high technical standard
- Review deliverables for quality assurance and quality control
- Interpret technical results and draw clear conclusions
Communicate Complex Work
- Write technical memoranda, reports and studies, including expert reports, water supply assessments, urban water management plans, water supply strategies, integrated plans, water transfers and conservation programs
- Present complex technical issues clearly to broad audiences
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings with clients and external parties
What You Bring
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Earth Sciences or a related field
- Master's degree preferred
Experience
- 12+ years of experience, including 8+ years as a water resources engineer in Colorado
- Expert testimony experience preferred
- Professional registration desirable (or 12+ years of demonstrated experience where registration isn't available for your degree)
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of Colorado water rights frameworks and administration
- Surface water modeling and water balance modeling
- Water resources planning
- Data management and visualization
- Technical writing

Work Environment
- Fast-paced setting with a high-volume workload and frequent short deadlines

- Base salary of $160,000-$190,000, based on skills, experience, qualifications and location
