The Opportunity
Our client, a leading provider of industrial safety solutions, is seeking a Business Development Manager to drive growth across the restaurant/food service, hospitality, and grocery/retail markets. Reporting directly to the VP of Sales, this is a high-visibility role where you'll shape go-to-market strategy, build relationships with major brands and distributors, and open new accounts across the food service industry.
As part of a sales team recognised for its customer-centric approach, you'll play a pivotal role in expanding market presence — with genuine scope to grow your career as you deliver results.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate and develop action plans for expansion and deeper penetration across food service, hospitality, and grocery/retail markets, actively sourcing new accounts
- Build and manage a database of prospective customers using market knowledge, trade shows, website inquiries, direct mail responses, and other sources
- Conduct market and competitor analysis to expand the customer base, working closely with Sales and Marketing on opportunities to increase market share and shape go-to-market plans
- Create and manage sales KPIs, presenting and discussing these in monthly reviews with the VP of Sales
- Maintain continuous education on product knowledge, the wider solutions portfolio, rules and regulations, and system capabilities
- Develop and deliver training tools and sessions for internal teammates, local sellers, and targeted end users
What You'll Bring
Essential:
- A degree in a business-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least five years' relevant experience, with strong working knowledge of the food service, hospitality, and grocery/retail markets and a proven ability to engage decision-makers at a senior level
- Negotiation and planning experience
- Problem identification and resolution skills
- Clear, concise communication
- A team-oriented mindset with an entrepreneurial approach
- Microsoft Office Suite and CRM experience
Desirable:
- Initiative and urgency — proactively driving deals through the pipeline and prioritising high-value activities that close revenue
- Adaptability and customer focus
- Dependability, with the ability to work within organisational protocol and standard operating procedures
- Curiosity — constantly seeking creative solutions for large customers on a regional or national scale
- Strong problem solving — correctly defining complex problems and developing viable work processes as solutions
- Experience working with distributor networks and foodservice channels
Compensation & Benefits
- Advertised base salary of $115,000–$140,000, with the final offer dependent on location, relevant experience, and performance
- Eligibility for an annual incentive plan, linked to company and business-unit targets
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
- 401(k) plan with company match
- Company-paid short- and long-term disability insurance
