Responsibilities

Actuarial pricing delivery

  • Own and deliver technical pricing across all assigned classes of business, including case pricing, portfolio pricing and ad hoc analytical work
  • Maintain independent and objective pricing views, remaining commercially aware and sensitive to business needs without being subject to commercial pressure in forming analytical judgements
  • Conduct calibration exercises across assigned classes to reduce model adjustments, bias and noise in deployed pricing models
  • Review underwriting adjustments to model outputs, assessing their suitability and escalating material concerns to the Head of Pricing (International) where appropriate
  • Ensure appropriate pricing controls are embedded within all models deployed to the assigned division
  • Contribute to business planning for all classes within the divisional remit, coordinating the pricing function's input alongside other actuaries

Model ownership & stewardship

  • Hold ultimate accountability for all pricing models deployed to the business within the assigned division, including sign-off on model releases in accordance with the pricing model release policyl
  • Maintain sufficient technical competency to interrogate pricing model databases for BAU data, update model parameters, perform low-level code changes and review back-testing results;
  • Maintain awareness of how pricing systems are implemented and maintained — including the hx Renew platform and other pricing tools in use — to enable effective oversight, informed sign-off and productive collaboration with the Technical Pricing team;
  • Provide specifications and requirements for model developments to the Technical Pricing team, taking ownership of the output once tested and deployed;
  • Adhere to all pricing governance policies in force, including those governing the review, approval and release of models into production;
  • Deliver training to underwriting teams on deployed pricing models, ensuring underwriters understand model mechanics, outputs and appropriate use.

Business partnership & governance

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the assigned underwriting division, building trusted working relationships at the divisional level and establishing a consistent pricing presence in underwriting-led forums;
  • Represent the pricing function at Pricing Committee, presenting items originating from the assigned division
  • Provide actuarial challenge on pricing-related matters, maintaining a clear boundary between actuarial and underwriting judgement
  • Support functions outside of underwriting — including Finance, Reserving, Risk and Capital — on actuarial pricing matters pertaining to the assigned division, ensuring a consistent and well-informed pricing view is available across the business
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory queries relating to class-specific pricing matters, coordinating responses in conjunction with relevant stakeholders as required, including Lloyd's and PRA/FCA requirements and contributions to Actuarial Function Reports (AFRs).

Analytics & management information

  • Monitor and report pricing metrics across the assigned division, including pricing adequacy & risk-adjusted rate change (RARC)
  • Develop MI to identify underperforming segments and inform portfolio optimisation decisions
  • Coordinate the design and delivery of class-specific management information
  • Propose rate changes and conduct impact analyses as required, presenting findings to senior stakeholders in relevant committees
  • Work closely with the Exposure Management team to monitor risk aggregations and assist with forming a Starr view of risk across modelled and non-modelled perils
  • Contribute to the annual planning cycle and the feedback loop between planning, reserving, pricing and capital.

The above duties and responsibilities are not an exhaustive list, and you may be required to undertake any other reasonable duties compatible with your experience and competencies. This description may be varied from time to time to reflect changing business requirements.
