Description
We are seeking an experienced bioinformatician to join our team developing and maintaining large-scale, web-based bioinformatics resources for the infectious disease and public health research communities, including BV-BRC and MAAGE. These NIH- and CDC-funded resources provide integrated access to genomic and metagenomic data, analysis services, and visualization tools supporting infectious disease research, genomic surveillance, and outbreak investigation. This position is located at Argonne National Laboratory.
The successful candidate will develop, implement, validate, and maintain computational methods and scalable analysis workflows for bacterial, viral, and metagenomic data. Areas of emphasis include comparative and population genomics, genomic epidemiology, metagenomics, sequence analysis, pathogen characterization, and structural bioinformatics, with applications to infectious disease research, antimicrobial resistance, public health surveillance, and outbreak investigation.
The candidate will work with interdisciplinary teams to evaluate and integrate new computational approaches, analyze and interpret complex biological datasets, and translate scientific requirements into accessible and robust analysis capabilities for the research community. The candidate will also contribute to education and outreach through the development of tutorials, documentation, webinars, and hands-on workshops. Additional responsibilities include contributing to scientific publications, conference presentations, project reports, and funding proposals.
