POSITION SUMMARY:
The Machine Shop Supervisor provides direct leadership for a high-volume machining operation, ensuring the safe, efficient, and consistent execution of daily production activities. This role is responsible for coordinating people, equipment, materials, and resources to achieve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost objectives. The supervisor drives operational performance by establishing priorities, monitoring results, resolving production issues, and ensuring adherence to standard work and company policies.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads daily machine shop operations to meet safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity expectations.
- Plans and assigns work based on production priorities, equipment capacity, material availability, staffing, and employee skill levels.
- Promotes a safe work environment by conducting safety discussions, reinforcing required practices, addressing hazards, and ensuring employees follow established procedures.
- Supervises, coaches, and develops employees; sets performance expectations, provides timely feedback, addresses performance and attendance concerns, and supports cross-training and skill development.
- Monitors production performance and responds to equipment, tooling, material, staffing, and process issues to minimize disruption and maintain operating targets.
- Reinforces standard work and quality requirements, reviews production and quality data, and coordinates containment and corrective actions when results do not meet expectations.
- Monitors equipment performance, escalates maintenance needs, and coordinates with maintenance personnel to support safe and efficient operations.
- Coordinates priorities, staffing, equipment status, and open issues with supervisors on other shifts to support consistent execution and effective shift handoffs.
- Maintains accurate production, staffing, training, safety, quality, and performance records and communicates results, risks, and resource needs to plant leadership.
- Identifies and supports continuous improvement opportunities that strengthen safety, quality, equipment reliability, productivity, and employee capability.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in machining or machine shop operations, including hands-on experience with production equipment, tooling, machine setup, and troubleshooting.
- Minimum of three years of direct supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, with responsibility for employee performance, training, work assignments, safety, quality, and production results.
- Working knowledge of machining principles, including chip formation, cutting tools, machine capabilities, and process controls.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot equipment, tooling, process, quality, and production issues and use structured problem-solving methods to identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Experience coaching employees, addressing performance concerns, reinforcing standard work, and supporting employee development across multiple skill levels.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions, production schedules, technical specifications, drawings, and operating data.
- Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, word-processing applications, and manufacturing or production systems used for scheduling, reporting, maintenance, quality, or inventory activities.
- Ability to communicate clearly, manage competing priorities, and work effectively with employees, leaders, and cross-functional partners.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree or technical certification in machining, manufacturing, industrial technology, or a related field.
- Experience with Buffoli rotary-transfer equipment or similar automated, multi-station machining equipment.
- Experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Experience using computerized maintenance management, manufacturing execution, enterprise resource planning, or other production-reporting systems.
- Experience working within ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
- Familiarity with plumbing products or a related durable-goods manufacturing environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed primarily in a climate-controlled manufacturing plant and machine shop environment, with regular time spent on the production floor.
- Regular exposure to operating machinery, moving mechanical parts, metalworking fluids, oils, noise, vibration, and other conditions typical of machining operations.
- Must follow all plant safety requirements and wear required personal protective equipment, which may include safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
- The role requires frequent standing and walking and may require bending, reaching, climbing stairs, and moving throughout the production area.
- May occasionally need to work outside the regularly scheduled shift, including overtime, weekends, or other shifts, to support operational needs.

Hiring Range: $72,500 - $90,000
Actual compensation may vary based on various factors including experience, education, geographic location, and/or skills.
