Job Description:
About Parsons
Founded in 1944, Parsons is a digitally-enabled solutions provider focused on creating the future of critical infrastructure. Whether designing iconic bridges, transforming transportation, or advancing environmental solutions, we have shaped global progress for over eight decades and continue to work to make the world smarter, safer, and more connected. We’re a company of thinkers and innovators. Our people don’t just generate big ideas, we bring them to life. We operate across services and markets around the world. As an intern, you’ll have the opportunity to grow your network with fellow interns and colleagues, explore the industry, attend social events, consult mentors, apply your skills to real world projects, and more. We are excited for you to contribute to our culture, elevate your career, and imagine next with us.
Location
Toronto, ON preferred, following a flexible hybrid schedule (1 to 2 days in office per week) depending on project needs and your location. Occasional travel to local project sites or nearby Parsons offices in Southern Ontario (e.g., Oakville or Markham) may be applicable.
What You’ll be Doing
You’ll join the Chief Technology Organization (CTO) Innovation Group within Infrastructure North America at Parsons, where we:
- Track emerging technology trends and conduct market scans relevant to our business (e.g., new AI tools, digital engineering methods)
- Drive the practical application of new technologies in real projects, helping pilot and implement innovations across our infrastructure business
- Facilitate the adoption and development of new tech capabilities and processes across North America, coordinating training, change management, and roll-out of best practices to staff
- Analyze and improve business workflows by building automations, tracking metrics including adoption, time saved, quality, cost savings, and user satisfaction
- Establish and manage relationships with technology vendors and partners, engaging with them to explore solutions and coordinate demos or evaluations
- Foster a culture of innovation and transformation by championing new ideas, helping organize events, and sharing success stories within the company
- Facilitate collaboration between the CTO Innovation Group and other Parsons teams to drive joint innovation and efficiency efforts
- Support innovation proposals and knowledge sharing by contributing to preparing proposal materials, case studies, and internal playbooks that communicate our innovation initiatives and lessons learned
- Empower our nearly 6,000 colleagues within Infrastructure North America to #ImagineNext
Exciting Initiatives You May Support
- Prototype or pilot generative and agentic AI solutions for internal and client use cases, using enterprise data, approved tools, and APIs and evaluating quality, reliability, cost, security, and user value
- Research emerging technologies and AI solutions, interviewing stakeholders to define needs, map workflows, prioritize use cases, assess feasibility and risk, and build business cases and recommendations for leadership
- Define success metrics and track adoption, task success, quality, reliability, time saved, cost, risk, user satisfaction, and Return on Investment (ROI), using results to recommend whether to scale, improve, or stop
- Contribute to client-facing project delivery in different technical domains; you could be involved in a transportation project, an environmental study, or a smart city pilot, helping apply your skills to deliver real project outcomes while injecting innovative ideas
- Drive the adoption of digital delivery best practices globally across Parsons, supporting training and implementation efforts so project teams worldwide can use improved digital workflows
Who We’re Looking For
Excellent Communication Skills
You’ll be collaborating with, and at times representing, our team to different stakeholders, from software developers and data scientists to senior executives, clients, and external partners. You must be able to explain technical topics to non-technical audiences and adjust your communication style to suit your audience.
Strategic and Analytical Thinking
You’re comfortable working at the intersection of people, processes, and technology to tackle strategic business challenges. This means you can think broadly about the role of innovation in an organization, but also break down and analyze problems. You enjoy using data and logic to solve problems and you can grasp how different parts of a system interrelate (e.g., how a change in process might impact people’s workflows and tech tools).
Independence and Initiative
We’re looking for a self-starter who takes ownership of their work. You’ll own projects and tasks with support from mentors and subject matter experts. We encourage you to find opportunities, suggest solutions, and ask good questions. You’ll have opportunities to lead and contribute, so be proactive and take initiative.
Creativity and Adaptability
Innovation is by nature dynamic. New priorities can emerge and we often navigate uncharted territory. You should be adaptable, organized, and able to manage changing tasks or objectives without losing focus. At the same time, bring your creativity! We value fresh perspectives and bold ideas. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and challenge the status quo.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
It’s not expected that you have all of these as this role is flexible based on your experience and interests, so different backgrounds are welcome!
- Applied knowledge of generative AI and agents, including context design, RAG, embeddings, structured outputs, tool and API use, orchestration, evaluation, guardrails, and human review
- Awareness of responsible AI and enterprise technology governance, including privacy, security, fairness, transparency, human oversight, data handling, evaluation, auditability, risk, and lifecycle monitoring
- Skills in data science, business intelligence, or analytics (e.g., familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI or basic Python/R/SQL for data analysis)
- Understanding of cloud and enterprise architecture, including APIs, databases, access controls, data integration, deployment, monitoring, security, reliability, and cost (e.g., familiarity with Microsoft 365, Azure, Power Platform)
- A design thinking mindset and experience with user-centred design and iterative problem-solving methods to develop client-focused solutions, including stakeholder interviews, problem framing, requirements gathering, use case prioritization, prototyping, testing, and roadmapping
- Familiarity with CAD and modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads) used in engineering design or GIS and geospatial technologies for mapping and spatial analysis
- Interest or experience in drone operations as used in surveying or inspections
- Willingness to travel occasionally; you may need to visit field sites or nearby Parsons offices in Southern Ontario (e.g. Oakville, Markham)
Note: Artificial intelligence is used in our hiring process to assist with screening and assessing applications. All resumes are reviewed and decisions about who to interview and hire are made by the hiring manager.
