Description
The Deputy Director of Alcohol and Drug is responsible for overseeing multiple managers and coordinators to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality behavioral health services across the department. This position provides leadership in staffing, scheduling, and daily operations to support efficient workflows, excellent customer service, and effective service outcomes. This role ensures that policies, procedures, and performance standards are consistently applied while fostering a collaborative and professional work environment. This class works independently, under limited supervision. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of the Alcohol and Drug Department.
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Supervises and evaluates assigned staff, including managers and coordinators. This includes providing guidance, resolving concerns, addressing performance issues, and conducting performance appraisals.
- Plans, assigns, and reviews staff work; establishes and maintains work schedules; monitors progress and completed tasks to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to standards.
- Oversees agency operations related to the delivery of behavioral health services, including prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery services, ensuring compliance with county and agency policies, procedures, and service expectations.
- Assists in the preparation, administration, and monitoring of departmental budgets. This includes providing oversight for grant applications and required reporting.
- Develops, implements, and communicates policies, rules, and procedures; prepares reports and analyses on behavioral health activities, operations, and system performance.
- Manages systemwide facility operations, including maintenance, safety, security, and improvements, to ensure service locations provide a safe and welcoming environment for staff and patrons/clients.
- Coordinates with internal departments, external vendors, and contractors as necessary to support operational and facility needs.
- Performs related duties as required to support the overall mission and objectives of the department.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in health administration, public health, business administration, or a closely related field.
- Over six years and up to and including eight years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience with grant-writing and grant management is highly preferred.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
