Description
Shop Fleet Technician II - Evening Shift
About the Job: The City of Colorado Springs is ready to welcome a Fleet Technician II to the Support Services team! As a Fleet Technician II you will provide repairs and preventative maintenance services to the City's fleet vehicles. This may include inspecting fleet vehicles, estimating damage of vehicles involved in collisions and normal wear and tear, completing repairs and preventative maintenance to vehicles in a shop environment.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; tentatively 2:30pm - 11:00pm. This position is eligible for shift differential pay.
This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year.

As a Fleet Technician II, you will:
- Repairs, cleans, replaces, installs and modifies defective, missing, or malfunctioning components of mechanical, hydraulic, fuel, electrical, braking, steering, pumping, and other related systems of assigned vehicles and heavy equipment
- Performs a wide range of automotive inspection, maintenance, and repair duties
- Modifies, tears down, repairs and reassembles major automotive components and assemblies including gasoline engines, automatic and standard transmissions, differentials, and front-end assemblies
- Calculates an accurate cost estimate of repair work as assigned including labor, supplies, and parts costs
- Ensures that all work activities adhere to all applicable federal, state, local, industry safety standards, and emissions mandates
- Perform needed repairs and maintenance in the field; lubricate, repair and/or diagnose malfunctions of City vehicles
- Installs a variety of parts and equipment on assigned vehicles including lights, trailer hitches, and generators
- Perform annual Department of Transportation (DOT) safety inspections
- Perform Diesel opacity testing
- Ensuring safety, customer care, service and communication, and continuing training and education
- Other duties as assigned
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
Knowledge of:
- Best practices for the inspection and repair of assigned vehicles and heavy equipment
- Basic computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook programs and fleet software applications
- Exert 50-100 lbs. occasionally; 10-25 lbs. frequently; or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly
- Read manuals, understand diagrams and interpret video
- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma or GED)
- Three years of full-time, professional experience in a related field
- Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid non-probationary Colorado Driver's License not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
- Possess or obtain within 12 months of hire (3) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT), or equivalent certification tests
- Possess or obtain within 24 months of hire Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) in Medium/Heavy Trucks, or equivalent master certification
A vocational certification or associate's degree in automotive, mechanics, or a closely related field Experience in relation to fleet tracking and work scheduling Possess upon hire, a minimum of two (2) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications Possess or willing to obtain within 24-months of hire, a valid non-probationary Colorado CDL Class A or B not subject to restrictions and maintain this status throughout employment
