The Classroom & A/V Technology Specialist is responsible for the operation, support, and continuous improvement of instructional technology environments across campus. This includes academic labs, classrooms, conference rooms, simulation spaces, and other learning environments.
This role serves as the primary technical resource for audiovisual (A/V) systems and classroom technologies, ensuring reliable and seamless technology experiences that support academic instruction and university operations. The position partners closely with faculty, staff, and students to troubleshoot issues, implement solutions, and promote effective use of instructional technologies.
Eligibility to work in the U.S. is required at the time of hire. No pre-employment sponsorship is authorized for this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a primary support resource for instructional technology and A/V systems across campus
- Install, configure, maintain, and support classroom, lab, and conference room technologies, including computers, displays, control systems, and audiovisual equipment
- Provide timely troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues impacting instructional and event spaces to ensure continuity of operations
- Support and maintain A/V systems such as control panels, signal distribution, conferencing systems, and presentation technologies
- Assist with the design, setup, and implementation of technology solutions for classrooms, labs, conference rooms, and campus event spaces
- Evaluate instructional technology environments and recommend improvements, upgrades, and standardization opportunities
- Collaborate with faculty and departments to understand instructional needs and assist in integrating technology into teaching and learning environments
- Provide training and guidance to faculty, staff, and students on the use of classroom technologies and A/V systems
- Maintain accurate documentation of systems, configurations, procedures, and knowledge base articles
- Support specialized instructional and simulation technologies as needed across academic programs
- Assist with planning and execution of technology deployments, refresh cycles, and lifecycle management initiatives
- Participate in after-hours or scheduled support for campus events and critical instructional needs as required
- Serve as a resource for internal and external customers and contribute to continuous service improvement efforts
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Three years of related experience.
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
- Knowledge of desktop repair, software support, and basic networking elements.
- Knowledge of computer security and administration tools.
- Knowledge of administrating various computer lab environments including visualization, imaging, and desktop security.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in IT, specifically in higher education with exposure to lab technologies.
- Foundational knowledge of ITIL practices.
- Experience supporting classroom, lab, or instructional technology environments in higher education
- Experience supporting audiovisual (A/V) systems such as control systems, conferencing platforms, and presentation technologies (e.g., Extron, Crestron, Logitech)
- Familiarity with classroom technology design, signal flow, and troubleshooting A/V environments
- Relevant A/V certifications such as Extron Certification, Crestron, or CTS from AVIXA
Other Requirements
- Excellent technical troubleshooting skills
- Proficient knowledge in hardware, software, networking, and basic coding abilities.
- Ability to work non-standard hours, including evenings or weekends, as required for events or maintenance
- Must obtain institution-approved A/V certification (e.g., Extron or equivalent) within six (6) months of hire if not already held
- Physical Requirements:
- Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Must be able to frequently move about campus facilities, including traversing stairs, navigating multiple floors, and traveling between buildings to provide on-site technical support.
- Bending and crouching around and under objects to check, adjust, maintain, install, or repair equipment.
