Description
The Learning Excellence Program is a fee-based support program that provides students with intentional academic coaching and tracking, professional tutoring, and proactive academic follow-up within the University’s ecosystem of student support. The Senior Learning Excellence Specialist is responsible for an assigned group of student participants and supports the implementation of program initiatives, goals, and objectives. The position also encompasses supervisory responsibilities of part-time Professional Tutors and Student Employees, when needed. The Senior Learning Excellence Specialist works collaboratively with colleagues in the office and outside the office for the benefit of our students’ success. The Senior Learning Excellence Specialist is a leader within the Learning Excellence Program and embraces the University’s mission and promise to provide an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people. This is a full-time, 12-month position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Master’s degree required in education, counseling or in an appropriate/related field (or in progress of completion of a master’s degree).
Experience and Training
- Three or more years of experience working with college students, including students with learning differences, academically at-risk students, and a proven record of academic and professional accomplishment and development.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, organizational skills, and strong interpersonal and counseling skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Completes all responsibilities and job functions of a Learning Excellence Specialist.
- Conducts weekly individual meetings with Learning Excellence Program participants to monitor and evaluate academic progress including assistance with accessibility resources and support, time management, organizational and study skills, transition to college life, social-emotional management, interpersonal skills, learning style strategies and coping skills.
- Supports the functions and efforts of the Learning Excellence Program, including developing partnerships within the University’s ecosystem of student support: Office of Student Success, Office of Accessibility Resources and Services, Office of Student Life, Office of Academic Services, Academic Affairs, and other support personnel.
- Assists students in developing, managing, and implementing academic action plans.
- Provides feedback to parents of Learning Excellence Program participants through consistent communication and written weekly report including individual meeting notes, tutoring appointments, grades, and instructor insights.
- Oversees the Professional Tutoring program within Learning Excellence and serves as the direct supervisor for professional tutors.
- Serves as a unit lead for partner offices on campus to support university initiatives.
- Meets with incoming students and parents regarding the program benefits and advantages, as needed.
- Serves as a representative of the Learning Excellence Program on university committees and in partnership meetings with student support offices and academic departments on campus.
- Serves as the Learning Excellence representative in the absence of the Assistant Director(s) and Associate Director(s).
- Represents the Learning Excellence Program at Admissions events, including Open Houses, Presidential Scholarship Weekends, Innovation Summits, Admitted Student Visits, and Orientation Weekends.
- Assists with program assessments and enhancements based off satisfaction surveys, feedback, and University initiatives.
- Serves as an instructor for the ADV1101: Foundations for Academic Success course during the summer, if eligible.
- Makes referrals to other University services/offices as appropriate (Office of Student Success; Accessibility Resources and Services Office; Career and Professional Development; University Registrar’s Office; Student/Residence Life; Counseling Services; Academic Affairs).
- Other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position and service to the University.
