Position Overview:
The Check Processing Specialist demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of daily operational processes, applicable regulations, policies, and procedures to support efficient and accurate check processing operations. The Specialist is responsible for coordinating and performing the timely processing, balancing, and reporting of transit items, transit returns, inclearings, ATM check deposits, and mobile check deposits. This is a critical operational role with non-deferrable responsibilities that must be performed to meet Regulation CC requirements and Federal Reserve processing deadlines.
Essential Responsibilities:
- 30% - Responsible for processing daily check presentment files and building, verifying, and transmitting cash letter files to the Federal Reserve. Process transit check returns in accordance with regulatory requirements and established deadlines. Process requests for mobile check deposit suspensions and reinstatements and ensure the timely handling of deleted ATM deposit items.
- 30% - Responsible for reviewing, researching, and repairing rejected check items, including MICR line exceptions, to ensure accurate and timely processing while minimizing operational risk. Perform item verification and data validation to ensure the accuracy of check information and related corrections.
- 15% - Maintain a comprehensive understanding of check processing operations, applicable regulations, policies, procedures, and departmental workflows. Assist with training, mentoring, and providing operational guidance to new team members.
- 15% - Provide timely, professional support to branches and internal departments by researching issues, resolving exceptions, and delivering effective troubleshooting assistance.
- 10% - Coordinate the completion of daily operational reports and other departmental responsibilities. Create, maintain, and update department procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance. Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Proficient keyboarding and 10-key data entry skills with a high degree of speed and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain sustained visual attention and concentration while performing detailed work.
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while managing multiple priorities and high work volumes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and exercise sound judgment in a deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Education & Experience (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities):
- Bachelor's degree.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Job Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Hybrid expectations (remote and on site)
- Sitting, telephone, computer for prolonged periods.
- Carrying, lifting, push/pull up to 15 lbs.
- Visual acuity is necessary for data entry and corrections.
- Background noise from other employees and office equipment.
