Description
The Snapshot
What You'll Actually Do
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs from architectural, structural, and shop drawings using Bluebeam.
- Build and maintain priced estimates, applying rates and labour constants provided by the Australian team.
- Work across a genuine mix of tender sizes and complexity, from smaller jobs to larger multi-unit developments.
- Identify scope gaps, drawing discrepancies, and missing information, and flag them before pricing is finalized. No silent assumptions.
- Compile and compare subcontractor and supplier quotes against the takeoff.
- Maintain a clean, structured cost database and pricing library, updated with actual job data.
- Prepare tender documentation: pricing schedules, qualifications, exclusions, and assumptions.
- Hit tender deadlines while keeping takeoff accuracy and presentation to a high standard.
- Communicate clearly and proactively with the Australian team across time zones.
- Start from a detailed brief and drawing pack and grow into handling just the drawings independently as you settle into the role.
What You Need to Bring
- Minimum 3 years of estimating experience in commercial construction or façade, ideally for an Australian or international builder.
- Demonstrable, hands-on Bluebeam experience for quantity takeoff and markup. This is non-negotiable: you'll need to describe specific projects you've measured in Bluebeam.
- Demonstrable, hands-on experience with Cubit (or genuinely comparable dedicated estimating software). This is also non-negotiable.
- Comfortable enough in Excel to build and present a clear costing. You don't need to be an Excel expert, just confident getting the right numbers into a spreadsheet cleanly.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- High accuracy and speed in quantity takeoff.
- Excellent written and spoken English, comfortable jumping on a call to talk through issues rather than just messaging.
- A reliable home office setup: stable high-speed internet, a current PC capable of running Bluebeam, and backup power or a contingency plan.
Nice to Have
- Experience working remotely for an Australian construction company.
- Familiarity with Australian standards, units, and trade terminology.
- Exposure to façade or curtain wall packages specifically.
- Exposure to Estimate One, Procore, or PlanSwift.
