Senior Data Scientist – Risk Management (Financial Crime Model Validation) 

• Help validate the next generation of financial crime models as the bank transitions from rule-based alerting to modern machine learning/GenAI approaches.

In this role, you’ll support a newly created capability focused on validating financial crime models as the bank moves from traditional rule-based alerting towards more modern machine learning approaches. You’ll apply strong technical judgement in a highly regulated environment, partnering with stakeholders to assess complex models and strengthen model risk outcomes.

You will: 

• Validate financial crime models as part of a dedicated team supporting a new capability within model validation. 

• Apply your data science and machine learning expertise to assess models designed to detect patterns and identify potentially risky transactions. 

• Deep dive into previous projects, technical decisions and problem-solving approaches to bring strong validation judgement to complex use cases. 

• Work closely with stakeholders in a regulatory-heavy domain where model risk, governance and technical quality all matter. 

• Contribute to a collaborative team environment that values learning, capability growth and exposure to different projects over time.

• Bring strong hands-on experience in Data Science, Machine Learning and Statistical Modelling. 

• Can clearly articulate how you have solved complex problems and designed technical approaches in previous model-related work. 

• Have strong Python capability, AWS experience, and experience working in a data-science-led technical environment. 

• Bring financial crime domain knowledge, or experience working with financial crime models, either in model development or model validation. 

• Have the ability to work effectively with stakeholders and apply sound judgement in regulated, risk-focused environments. 

• Hold a tertiary qualification in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science or Computer Science.
