About this opportunity:

Ball State University seeks a collaborative and innovative professional to serve as the Assistant Director for Health Promotion within the Office of the Dean of Students. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, this position leads the development, implementation, and assessment of evidence-informed prevention and education initiatives focused on sexual misconduct, interpersonal violence, hazing, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), and other student safety and wellbeing priorities. The Assistant Director works closely with students and campus partners to deliver engaging educational programs, training, outreach, and awareness campaigns that promote student success, foster a safe and inclusive campus environment, and support institutional prevention and compliance goals. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative and student-centered professional to help shape prevention efforts and contribute to a comprehensive approach to student wellbeing. What you'll do and what you'll bring:

Position Function:

The Assistant Director for Health Promotion, reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, is responsible for coordinating evidence-informed prevention and education programs, training initiatives, outreach efforts, and educational resources designed to promote student safety, community wellbeing, and compliance with institutional and federal requirements. The position provides leadership for prevention programming related to sexual misconduct, interpersonal violence, hazing, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), consent education, and related prevention topics. This role supports implementation of the University's prevention strategy through education, outreach, training, and awareness efforts that align with institutional priorities and compliance obligations.


Duties & Responsibilities:



Program Coordination:


1. Design, coordinate, implement, and evaluate evidence-informed prevention and education programs focusing on Title IX, Clery, sexual misconduct, interpersonal violence, hazing, AOD, consent education, bystander intervention, community care, and related prevention topics.


Communications and Outreach:


2. Coordinate development and dissemination of educational materials, websites, social media content, newsletters, promotional materials, presentations, and outreach resources supporting prevention and education initiatives.


Collaboration and Partnerships:


3. Serve as a liaison with campus and community stakeholders to support implementation of prevention initiatives, educational programming, and coordinated prevention efforts.


Meeting Facilitation:


4. Facilitate and coordinate meetings involving campus partners, student leaders, prevention stakeholders, and program collaborators.


Supervision:


5. Provide supervision, guidance, support, and educational mentorship to student volunteers, interns, and practicum students involved in prevention and education initiatives.


Assessment and Evaluation:


6. Support program assessment, evaluation, and reporting activities to measure effectiveness, support continuous improvement, and inform prevention strategy.


Other Duties:


7. Support the Associate Dean in performing other related duties as assigned, including (but not limited to) participation in departmental, divisional, and campus-wide meetings and committees.


8. Perform other related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment to education; demonstrated skills in quality customer service; experience with Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Advanced degree in education, public health, health promotion, health education, or other related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • At least two years of experience in a university-based health services program, Student Affairs department, health center, or wellness institute; public speaking experience and skills; evidence of research and scholarly activity and ability.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity; excellent interpersonal, intrapersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; excellent organizational, relationship, and analytical skills; ability to perform all job duties.
  • Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH) designations (or be eligible and intend to become certified) or a Juris Doctorate.
