GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Peer Recovery Support Specialist reports to the Peer Support Services/Intensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation Manager and works in collaboration with other Broadlawns Community Based Services staff members. This position helps clients set recovery goals, navigate systems of care, and build skills for independent living and living well in recovery.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Consistently demonstrate the ability to meet requirements specified in Iowa Medicaid B3 Manual.
- Work in a productive and efficient manner to assist clients with reaching their goals.
- Model recovery.
- Encourage clients’ individual commitment to their wellness and recovery.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Maintain productivity at a quantity and quality consistent with position standards.
- Maintain positive performance and attendance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be in recovery from a behavioral health disorder which previously had significant impact on social and/or vocational adjustment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to appropriately direct difficult client issues.
- Good communication skills.
- Valid Iowa driver’s license, regular availability of personal car, and evidence of insurance coverage.
- Good driving record as determined by BMC requirements.
- Ability to meet clients in their homes or in public places with the ability to drive clients safely, and a willingness to transport clients in own vehicle as needed.
- Must complete a designated external Peer Support Specialist training and pass competency examination within 90 days of hire.
- Must obtain State Certification for Peer Support Specialist within 18 months following completion of Peer Support Specialist training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree in a related human services field.
- Prior experience as a peer support specialist.
- Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills to build trust and professional relationships.
