As part of our Finance Transformation and new Finance Target Operating Model (TOM), we are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join our Italy Finance team. This is a key leadership role within the Financial Controllership function, responsible for ensuring financial integrity, statutory compliance, and a robust controls environment for ERM's Italian legal entities.


The Role

The Financial Controller acts as the primary owner of the local financial control framework and statutory reporting processes. Working closely with the Global Delivery Centre (GDC), external auditors, tax advisors, business leaders, and regional finance teams, you will ensure compliance with Italian accounting and regulatory requirements while providing valuable financial insight and governance.


Key Responsibilities


Financial Control & Governance

  • Drive and oversee the overall financial controls environment.
  • Review and approve key balance sheet reconciliations and financial positions prepared by the GDC.
  • Identify risks and opportunities within financial reporting and provide recommendations to leadership.
  • Ensure adherence to ERM policies, controls, and accounting standards.

Statutory Accounting & Compliance

  • Lead statutory accounting activities and ensure compliance with Italian GAAP and local regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain oversight of local statutory books and reporting obligations.
  • Support VAT and other local compliance requirements in collaboration with specialist teams.

Audit & External Reporting

  • Lead statutory, tax, and financial audits.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and advisors.
  • Support Group audit requirements and ensures timely resolution of audit matters.

Accounting Expertise

  • Provide expert accounting guidance and judgement on complex transactions and financial adjustments.
  • Partner with the GDC to ensure accurate accounting treatment and consistent application of policies.

Business Partnership

  • Collaborate with Finance Directors, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, HR, and operational leaders.
  • Deliver high-quality financial insight to support decision-making and business performance.
  • Contribute to finance transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Skills & Experience


Essential

  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in financial controllership, accounting, audit, or finance management.
  • Strong knowledge of Italian GAAP, statutory reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing external audits and regulatory relationships.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong Excel and ERP system experience.
  • Fluent Italian and English (C1).

Preferred

  • Professional accounting qualification (Dottore Commercialista, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent).
  • Experience within a multinational or professional services environment.
  • Exposure to shared service or global delivery models.
  • Knowledge of IFRS and international reporting environments.
