Student Wellness Hub
The Student Wellness Hub provides a range of health services to McGill students with a focus on awareness, prevention, and early intervention. The Student Wellness Hub has a variety of clinicians that provide one-on-one appointments, therapy groups and other services. Within the Student Wellness Hub, the Healthy Living Annex focuses on health promotion and offers peer support programs for both the Macdonald and downtown campuses.
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology. Prepares materials and equipment. Compiles data. Demonstrates techniques. Maintains equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collects, cleans, and prepares medical equipment/instruments for autoclave sterilization ensuring soiled instruments/equipment are hand washed and sterilized.
- Disinfects examination table in all exam & treatment rooms
- Ensures consumable items are replenished i.e., latex gloves, PCR swabs, bio-hazard bags, speculums, tissues, masks, etc.
- Registers patient specimens, explains laboratory test procedures as required.
- Reviews in Medesync for specified results (urgent; + gram stain, + H.Pylori, + STI, etc.) to communicate with medical professionals for review
- Assigns results to patient files incorrectly labeled in error
- Communicates with immediate supervisor for lab related issues, errors &/or escalation needs.
- Communicates via email with hospitals and/or clinics for missing laboratory results
- Responds to medical professionals' inquiries related to lab tests/results.
- Assist with strep, urine & processes pregnancy tests
- Updates Laboratory manuals as required (Sterilization, Main Lab manual, Macdonald, Inventory, etc.) in MS Teams SWH Laboratory Team Group and Confluence
- Communicate with FLS, Macdonald Campus, Nurses via MS Teams groups. Maintains communication within various Teams Groups in MS Teams (SWH Laboratory Team Group, Medical Instruments & Sterilization, Stock Room 4505 Group & Student Wellness Hub Group)
- Responsible for maintaining an accurate accounting of all consumables primarily in locked storage rooms. Responsible for restocking stock room 4505 & treatment room. Updates inventory Excel spreadsheet after receiving supply shipment in MS Teams SWH Laboratory team Group Inventory
- Receives calls & answers general lab inquiries; refers more complex issues to immediate supervisor
- Demonstrated ability to explain protocols to patients and obtain informed consent.

- Proven ability to lift and carry weights of up to 40 pounds, an asset.
- Demonstrated ease with technological applications with a proven ability to work in a PC environment using MS Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work with clinical and administrative information systems such as Medesync is a very strong asset.

Knowledge of English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # 3 (advanced) on a scale of 0-4.
